This swap isn't difficult to administer in the UK, DVLA will change the engine number and capacity and issue another V5C - at that age it'll make no difference to VED class. Insurer will need to be notified and additional premium paid.
Are you sure about that having done it few times its not as easy as you make out nor are the insurance companies all that keen to insure an oddball car.The emission test is rather complicated as no data is available for the MOT testing station to use.
Bought this car last January (2013) and very pleased overall except I can't get more than an indicated 37mpg under any conditions, no matter how carefully I drive. Is this normal for this car, anyone know? Or do I need to get it checked? Read more
Thanks everyone for your input, the car is the latest Mondeo, 2011 vintage, Titanium x sport. I bought it for performance and comfort rather than economy but it seems very thirsty, have just driven to SW France at French legal limit and got only 30mpg, whereas I used to have a 2000 Merc 320 Cdi that would do close to 40mpg on the same run. Unfortunately that car had chronic rust problems, but that's another story....
Hi,
Didnt know if anyone has any info / experience on the Hyundai / Kia 2.0 CRTD / CRDI engine. I have bought one with a snapped cambelt, and i've had a brief look at how to strip the head off to look for damage.... Read more
I to have only had experience with PSA engines but I wouldn't think yours would be a lot different. A Haynes manual might be the answer, if they don't do that car they may have one with that engine.

Should be 8006
Basically i'm going to trade in a 2007 ford focus 2.0 tdci titanium but i'm undecided about what car to get next.
The ones i have been looking at are as follows:
2010 BMW 320d efficent dynamics, 61K, £11000
2010 Honda Civic EX 2.2 cdti, 45K, £10500
2010 VW Passat R Line tdi 110, 30K, £9950
2011 VW Golf GT Tdi 2.0 140, 41K, £11000
They are the ones i most fancy but which one should i go for? Is the extra mileage of the BMW something to worry about? Im a bit torn between them all so rightly or wrongly i want some more opinions!!!! So what would you buy from that list?
Cheers all. Read more
Sorry to be negative, but I wouldn't buy any of those, for the simple reason that I wouldn't buy a 3-4-year-old diesel. There are too many appendages on modern diesel engines, added in the interest of the environment and/or noise suppession - which fail expensively at higher mileages.
You'll find - at least at the moment - that a petrol-powered version of the same car will cost you less initilly to compensate foir higher fuel consumption....
Your dash pod most definitely contains the immobiliser. But I would check the fuses both in the engine bay and cabin fuseboxes first.hth
