Hi,

I've got a 2006 Ford Focus and the drivers side dipped beam has stopped working. I've changed the bulb and the fuse but still no luck. I was thinking it could be the relay but if it was would that not affect both sides? I might try swapping it with the full beam relay later to see if that one works. I do have a multi meter but have never really used it on car electics before so any help with that much appreciated!... Read more

Yes-- Halogen bulbs can go 'intermittent' as they fail. I've had two like that.

It's a known issue, VAG wide. My 2 year old Yeti recently had to have the compressor replaced, no quibblling, under warranty. However, I won't have the vehicle out of warranty. SOGA might apply, but I don't want the bother of a struggle to get something fixed. Replacement will probably not be VAG though!

So the aircon compressors(made by Valeo I believe) failed on the Mk 5 Golf and other derivatives, and now they are failing on the Mk 6's, but for a different reason....

Has anyone else been shocked by the cost of keeping a Mini?

Amyway, the whole point is that the dip stick is IMPOSSIBLE to read. I'm not negating my own responsibility in all this, but it isn't fit for purpose. I ws told that the cooper engine needs a lot of oil - just not THAT much, The dipstick kept teling me that the oil was low...

Didn't put it my first post in this thread but my Mrs had a Cooper S for 2 1/2 years. In that time we never added any oil and never had a problem reading the dipstick.

You will have learned by now that one persons supposed fact is not necessarilly the truth i.e. the Cooper engine needs a lot of oil, some may do but many will not. That is a fact with all engines....

My wife has owned an Audi A3 1.8TFSI Sport S-tronic since new (Aug 2007). It has covered 56,000 miles, is in super condition and we love it other than the DSG transmission's jerkiness from rest. After this worsened, Audi reset the software, which slightly improved matters, but it is still very difficult to manoeuvre at slow speeds because of the sudden, jerky take-up of drive however carefully one feathers the throttle. Audi have explored it further and are now proposing that we replace the mechatronics unit with a new one that has redesigned valving, which they say should be a smooth as the new model they loaned us. The cost is £1,733 less 50% goodwill, so £866 incl. VAT. What do you recommend we do out of: a) nothing, b) have Audi fix it, c) trade it in against a new A3 or Golf? Or lastly, are there independents who can replace just the valving with the latest version at lower cost than swapping the whole mechatronics unit? Read more

Please guys I need your expert advice!

I've got the 2010 308 1.6HDi Peugeot and I'm very happy with it in general, excellent fuel efficiency, good solid feel and a smooth drive. BUT..... yesterday the boot decided to stop working.

When I press the button to open the boot, I can hear the mechanism and it sounds the same as normal but the boot catch doesn't open. Also I've tried using a screwdriver from inside on the emergency boot opener, which also moves freely to the left but fails to open the catch. Is there another way to get it open - removing panels etc.? I really hope so, please help guys :)
Thank you!

HELP............. I have the same problem xx

My parents have an 8 year old Polo which has only done 18,000 miles from new. They have been told by the VW dealer that it needs a new timing belt based on it's age. I thought timing belt replacement usually depended on mileage rather than age.

Does it seem reasonable that the belt needs replacing at such a low mileage because of the age of the car?... Read more

I very much doubt that even at this age there is any actual rubber in the belt the ones made at present are purely man made mate.rials

Quite so, but whatever they are made of the point is the belt needs changing ASAP.

I am looking to trade in my 11 plate BMW 318d for one of the following:

12 plate Golf 2.0 TDi

Or

10 plate Tiguan 2.0 TDi 4motion

Both of which are roughly the same price. Any views on which is the better buy and which is likely to hold value better?

Thanks Read more

Facts regarding depreciation.

Your 318D will continue to depreciate but will not now take a sudden hit, you had that when you bought it....

Another vote for Mr Muscle. No sure on the age of your car, but check all vacuum pipes and ensure the vanes move freely after cleaning

My AA renewal came through and as they decided to jack up the premium I decided to go elsewhere. My new insurance company are asking for proof of NCD so phoned the AA and was told I'd received it in three days after my insurance had expired. So should have it by now.

I've switched companies many times and this is the first time I've been asked for proof, presumably the insurance companiies used to talk to each other.... Read more
