My brake switch is gone , meaning that not only do I have no brake lights but the transmission interlock and cruise control go as well (potential for car to keep cruising even when brake is pressed !!)
Looking as the US recall sites, it seems most Korean cars manufactured c.2007 had this fault and were recalled to fit new switch... Read more
The gearchange on my 72k '03 A4 is becoming a little notchy, I'm told that the boxes (5 speed in my case) are filled for life, it doesn't appear to be in the service schedule.
And advice appreciated, Is this an easy DIY job? Read more

I am planning to buy 2010 avensis in nigeria. its got 70k km but the gearbox seems like normal auto changing from 1 to 4 rather than CVT!
does Toyota do normal auto for foreign use and CVT for Europe?... Read more
Does not directly answer your question but in the UK the Avensis does not have a 2 litre petrol engine, only the 1.8, neither does it have a conventional automatic gearbox, only the CVT and manual. Would suggest you contact the Main Toyota dealers in your country to find out what is available.
They are not comparing the quality of service which is the most important part. Read more
which garage was that please
Hi
I have a 307 the low fuel additive comes up on the display i have filled the tank and the counter as been re-set also the cat purged the light comes up when the car is started for about 5 seconds with a audable beep then goes out . The tank is full the counter reset what could be wrong or is this correct.... Read more
A shot of additive is injected into the fuel system every time the car is filled up - there are sensors on the fuel cap. So that's why its always a good idea to fill up with half a or a full tank at a time.
The car's ECU can be reset by anyone with the Lexia equipment, there's a quite a good network of Peugeot owners and amateur diagnostics specialists with the equipment....
Hi I have recently bought a Ford Fiesta from a local garage (a member of the Good Garage Scheme) and it was sold with full service history including radio code but for some reason the garage owner is loath to furnish me with the radio code and service history. I have managed to find the serial number of the radio which is 4500 RDS EON model which is M002177. Can anyone help with a code? Thank you. Read more
I have a p reg galaxy which has had a heavy sounding rattle across the front seems to be around the footwell area. It seems to knock/rattle more when going in a straight line when cornring it seems not so bad. It has been getting worse for a couple of years but flies through the mot. Ive replaced the anti roll bar bushes and still the same. The last mot has an advisory for the nearside steering rack inner arm could this be the problem. Also noticed tyres wearing badly inside of one outside of the other side. Are the steering rack inner arms also known as the inner steering rack ends. Thanks in anticipation. Read more
Just back from a short weekend break in Brussels. I was struck by the number of high end Mercs, Audis and Skoda that are used as taxis and driven by maniacs on a death mission around the narrow cobblestoned streets of Brussels.
What puzzles me is that all the taxis I saw are common rail diesels yet Brussels ,like all big cities, is frequently in gridlock and these vehicles are not made for stop start, short trip journeys.
That said, quite a number are customised by the manufacturer as taxis with price read-outs on the rear view mirror etc. why do MB and VAG continue to churn out diesel taxis if they aren't really designed for urban driving?
I must pay tribute though to the engineering of Mercedes Benz. The taxi SWMBO and I took to Brussels airport to catch the early flight home was driven by Mad Max who went through at least a set of brake pads, a clutch and a gearbox in his attempt to get out of rush hour Brussels nearly killing several pedestrians/cyclists in the process and a driving style that would have destroyed most other car makes. Truly shocking.

Funny you say that - some of the Merc taxis seem to have clocked up straship mileage and I could see all sorts of warning lights on the dash flashing... and clearly the drivers weren't remotely concerned.

So, back in the city, and Bless them, Wandsworth Parking services very efficient, Helpline staff very helpful, able to get 1 month personal virtual permit with letting contract, and when proof of vehicle insured arrived, got full permit.
Very pleasantly surprised at how quick it all went!... Read more
Down the road in Merton, I'm often amazed at its efficiency, with permits, rubbish collection, pavement pot holes etc.
Then I look at its income, and realise how they manage it!!...
Hi all, hoping someone can help me here.
I bought a nice little Ford Fiesta about 4 months ago, and it has recently started to develop possible clutch or gearbox issues within the last few days. I've read a bit into it and it sounds like it could be a common problem, but I just want to make sure. The car is a 1.4 petrol, and has only done 88,000 miles... Read more
Almost definitely a clutch problem.
On these Fiestas it is a hydraulic clutch, make sure that the cluch is replaced using quality parts and that the thrust bearing which is integral with the slave hydraulic cylinder is replaced at the same time....
If it's a Hyundai/Kia then, yes there's been a UK recall to change/adjust the brake light switch. Had my Santa Fe done in July this year.
