I haven't owned a car for about 10 years now, just hired the odd car when I need one. I'm about to become a dad for the first time so I think owning a car and the convenience it'll give me and my family is worth it.
I've just been into a Kia dealership and test drove an ex-demo car. It was registed in November 2012, it has 6,467 mileage, diesel, manual, drives well. Because Kia effectively own it, I'd be the 2nd owner, Kia would reset the 7 year warranty on the day of purchase. The price includes free mats, Gap insurance (guaranteeing the price I paid for it if the car was written off), DiamondBrite interior and exterior.... Read more
I was watching Wheeler Dealers last night and Ed China used waterless coolant in a TR6.
Does anyone have experience with this type of product?... Read more
plus you had the additional advantage that it didn't leave any deposits like water does.
Dirty water?? ;)...

As for the table of speed limits and speeds qualifying for different courses of action, that (if I recollect aright) is the same as it has been in the past.
It npw seems the threshold is [(limit+10%) + 2mph]....
BMW Bluetooth software does not work with iPhone 5s so no hands free available.
BMW has not got a fix yet and no one at BMW seems to know when there will be be one.
Anyone else found this -Is there a solution? Read more
Yes.
Put the iphone 5 in the boot as you are 4 times more likely to crash if using a mobile phone while driving
In the 90s I ran a car showroom so any cars I purchased for resale I drove on trade plates. Before I started the garage though, I registered every car I bought for resale in my own name and taxed each car. This caused quite a delay in turning around stock as occasionally, back then, it took 6 weeks to receive the new log book in my name. I am considering buying and selling cars in my spare time but I do not expect to sell enough to qualify for trade plates again.
When I sold my own personal car last year, the guy who bought it produced a tax disc by only using the green slip.... Read more
I have got a SmartWitness SVC100GPS camera and the video quality is rubbish! I have just placed a order with Ipixi for a Winycam X100FHD which is FullHD.
What camera's have people got and how would you rate it? Have you ever had to use the footage? Read more
Hi Grease_monkey,
There are 2 versions to the SmartWitness range of forward facing cameras. The SVC100GPS is not the HD version , the SVC150GPS is the HD version....
Time to start think about a new car for the beginning of next year. Looking to downsize to a smaller car that actually fits in a parking space (try parking a Mondeo size vehicle in Tesco). I have narrowed the choice down to a BMW 120d VW Golf VII 2.0Tdi or an Audi A3 2.0 Tdi.
Have had a run yesterday in a 12od and really liked it. Has anyone here run one of the new shape ones for a fair length of time? I will do around 70,000 miles in three years and need a reliable vehicle. Thanks Read more
"Are the Golf and A3 essentially the same car?"
I'd say similar. Both use the VAG platform called MQB, which stands for a very long single word in German, and the same engines and transmissions. But engineers may have set up the steering and handling slightly differently.
My wife and I were looking for a car for our daughter to learn to drive in as our existing car is unsuitable for a learner. We visited a local main dealer and and although they didn't have a suitable one in stock, one was available from another dealership in the same group 40 miles away. We checked the model & mileage on line and the dealer we visited was able to arrange the vehicle to be delivered to their premises. We agreed to purchase the car through finance over 3 years. I had a brief opportunity to look at the car when it arrived and there was a dent in the passenger door and one of the alloy wheels was quite badly scuffed.
My question is, does this transaction come under the distance selling regulations 2000 as the car was unseen at the time of the agreement in which case I believe we have a right to cancel the order?... Read more
Had the car been prepared prior to you first seeing it, you would have been none the wiser. As previously suggested, if the dealer does a good job, I don't see the problem.
Good choice for your lucky daughter BTW.

Have contributed little on this forum for many years now but always have a read. In particular I like Gordon Bennet's contributions and particularly his comment on those CVT etc type of gear boxes. Reminds me of several years ago when my son in law used to work out of Toyota exclusively on nights for a French company.
He would describe how he often had one of these half way up the ramp with the engine screaming but remain stationary. His method afterwards was to take a run at it and hope for the best.... Read more
I worked regularly out of Burnaston among other makes sites, fastidious in every way quality control, which is reflected in all Toyota sites i visited and accounts in part for my deep respect for Toyota, only perfect will do.
From the marques and French connection your SiL and i probably worked for the same company, it was as he will have told you a very good job and was at one time one of the best companies in the industry to work for....

Price is nothing special for a 1 year old example.
Good car, hope it works out well.
