I have a fiesta 1.4 zetec 2002 and wen I change gear there is a very short screech like a fan belt noise!?
Is this anything to do with a thrust bearing or clutch?????
Also does this car have a dual fly wheel or a single one and if it is one of these things would it be expensive to fix?
Any help ASAP would be great? Read more
Article on the HJ website that the averge motrist is confused as to what engine oil to use. SO he or she uses any old oil. What a sad state of affirs so people can invest thousands buying a car but can not be bothered to correctly service and maintain a car? unable to read car manaul and comprend and infer if the manual says use 5W-30 full synthetic then that is the oil to use. Go to shop and ask for 5w/30. Are we lazy, stupid or illiterate. Read more
Whose Link? the Link I posted was for Comma's survey on people checking their oil.
The handbook for my car lists 10w40, 5w40 and 5w30 but, Now 5w30 is much cheaper than it used to be and much more widely available at a sensible price i'll use it. Since it's first oil change I have used 5w40 fully syn.
Hello my friend has had a timing belt go on his 1.8 petrol renault scenic. Just wondering whether its total carnage or could it just be top end damage. He said he was doing about 40mph when it went. Does anyone know if the 1.8 laguna engine is the same as the one for the scenic as ive been told it is. Read more
I would expect there to be bent valves as a minimum. Exactly how many and which ones will depend upon whereabouts in the four stroke cycle the engine was at the point of failure. The head will need to come off to be examined and reconditioned.
If your friend is extremely unlucky a valve may have punched through a piston crown. On some cars the sump can be removed and the piston/rod assembly removed with the engine still in the car....
Today there was a phone in on the Jeremy Vine Show about car accidents involving deer. One twazzock contacted the show to say it wasn't the fault of the deer. It was the fault of the landowners for letting deer on roads!! Read more
About 30 years ago I was driving in rural Suffolk not far from the coast. The roads were narrow with high banks either side. (RT, this was arable land. You can't fence in all arable land!) All of a sudden a stag dear ran across the road in front of me. If that had been a split second later it would probably have been curtains for both of us. I was driving a Citroen Dyane.
Two years ago I was driving the Octavia on an A road near Bury St Edmunds, again in arable land area, and a roe deer ran into the road and managed to put a crease in the driver's side door. Fortunately, the deer was alright, just in need of some paracetamol....
Bought a 62 plate focus 6 days ago but only just noticed that the mileage on the finance agreement is signiifcantly lower than the mileage when I picked the car up - around 500 less. The car was purchased thru a ford dealership via a 6000 mile options agreement.
I was also assured that the car had had its first service and now checking the servcie book it is down as being serviced more than 3 months ago with a mileage of more than 500 more than that on the finance agreement. The service book is not the original so I'm thinking that the service may not have taken place... Read more

take your point on the money side - was more worried about how the car has been driven when technically it was my property....
Dear Forum,
I purchased a car last year which had a new dash board fitted with different mileage to what was on the service history.... Read more

Yes it is an old design - but an all new Aygo/C1/108 is due in 2014.
The comment that the NCAP rating had been down-graded isn't accurate - the Aygo was tested by Euro NCAP in 2012, and they deemed that the rating for frontal impact would be the seem as the C1 tested in 2005, so the 2005 test results for frontal impact were used for the 2012 rating....
Hi ,
I was wondering if anyone could offer a little advice ..
The problem I have is that after having a new dpf fitted , the turbo has died as well and have decided that enough is enough and not to keep chucking money at it .
I'm not best versed in motoring matters and wondered if anyone could suggest ways to claw a bit of money back off it even though it's dead ?..
I've had a quote from a company that buys problem cars , they offered me 600 quid , does this seem like a decent offer or am I being fleeced ?
As you've probably guessed I've not got much experience in car dealings so any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks . Read more
