BG raises it's fuel prices and the Government advice is to switch to another supplier.

Usual problem is that is as soon as you switch, that company pushes its charges up inline with the others. What can we do as consumers to hit back at them. We can't go without as they've got us by the short and curlies.... Read more

Do Finns drink too much vodka or something?

(Answer: probably. I gather alcohol-related deaths rank very highly over there.)

Having bought and been very pleased with a Citroen C2 LX 1.1 and later a Mazda 2 TS2 after reading the complimentary reviews on HJ, I decided to follow like advice to replace the Michelin Energy Saver tyres on my wife's C2.

The tyres have performed admirably and I was going to replace them with the same but after reading some HJ tyre reviews purchased Goodyear Vector All Seasons.... Read more

As much as I like the car, I have found that the windscreen seems very prone to misting up. The demisters seem a bit feeble compared to other cars even the previous model. I have to use the a/c quite a lot to clear the screen which I have not had to do before. Does anyone else have the same problem. Read more

Ensure that the air recerc button is working. When I bought my year old MK 1 Superb it had a recerc flap servo fault (probably there from new) that caused all sorts of misting up problems - fortunately sorted under warranty. Big dash out job!

If that is working to spec - As previously suggested switch AC off a few minutes before the end of a journey to purge moisture out of the air con/climate system. When you finally park up for the evening push the recerc button just before turning off. This seals the interior from the outside world / dew /frost etc......

Hi. I have the above car which is doing some strange things. If you start it cold there is not any excess smoke from the exhaust. You can leave it running on idle and get it warm and then rev it as hard as you like stationary and still no smoke. I can leave it running on idle for two hrs then go out and rev it and still no smoke. However as soon as I start to drive it within 200 yards there is white smoke billowing out. I then park it up still running and its still smoking like crazy. and I can leave it running for an hour and its still billowing out smoke even on idle. BUT if I turn it off and leave it half an hour or even less I can start it again and not a whiff of smoke nomatter how long its run for or how hard you rev it!!. But the second you drive it 200 yds its back to killing off anf one thats following you. Its using ZERO coolant and NO oil at all HELP!!!!!! Read more

My Brother in Law is self employed and needs a van for his work. His Renault Kangoo recently went beyond economic repair and he purchased a new Vauxhall from a Main Dealer.

After two weeks, he noticed that there are many rust spots on the roof and a few elsewhere and it looks as though there were iron filings on the bodywork which have been sprayed over.... Read more

Did he buy a Combo (Doblo in drag)?

No, it's a Vivaro....

I had a lengthy chat with a private hire taxi driver last night, he does around 50K miles per year and had just sold his 09-plate Octavia 115bhp diesel with DSG.

He sold it with 230,000 on the clock, having bought it with 60K up, and run it for three years. In that time, he'd replaced the DMF twice (he was getting around 80K per flywheel) but apart from that, had only replaced service items and consumables.... Read more

Good to know also that the DSG was up to that mileage. It seems that the problems have been with the dry clutch version: this Octavia, like mine, has the wet clutch.

He said he never had any problems with the gearbox or selector mechanism itself, just that the flywheel started clunking and rattling every 80 - 85K miles. I didn't ask specifically, but I presume the clutch plate was changed at the same time.

i have a renault scenic 1.9 dci 2005, i have a warning "check injection", it does not have the power i thought a 1.9 would have,i have recently had a new turbo fitted. when i put my foot down it doesnt seem powerful enough and some times there is smoke, especialy on hills...any help please

Check Injection could be a glow plug, I had the same message and was down on power, changed all 4 and the problem went. A garage should be able to diagnose if you have a faulty glow plug.

Might be another cause for the lack of power. Smokey exhaust, probably nothing to be too concerned about being an 8 year old diesel, ours has always been a bit smokey on acceleration.
