Hi, I have an automatic 206, 2003 plate. Recently the gears box has been making a fast clicking noise when I have stopped and it is in an gear including park. Also there looks like a small leak on the left side but the oil is full and so is the power steering fluid.
Any help would be greatly appreciated before I take it anywhere and get charged the earth for this old car. Read more
This warning light glows slightly all the time-works correctly on handbrake/low fluid-obviously a minor short somewhere in the loom but how to find it-pulled/pushed loom wherever you can see it but no change-ANY IDEAS??? Read more
What happens if you disconnect the low fluid level sensor on the reservoir.?This will stop the handbrake light working, but does it stop the glow?
I remember the days when a gallon of GTX cost 8 quid............now I'm asked to pay £46 for four mingey litres of some exotic synthetic. I suspect a lot of owners just settle for the cheapest oil they can get Read more
Generic grade is important, rather than specific brand since marketing comes into play - check the handbook. My son and his colleagues, who are all professional mechanics, halve the recommended oil change intervals on their own cars. Blown turbos are often accompanied by gunged up oil supply feeds to the turbos on diesels on long service interval engines. I prefer to have an interim oil change and am left uncomfortable with bi-annual oil changes. I understand the publicity blurb put out by manufacturers, but had a 530d serviced to manufacturers specifications by BMW that blew its turbo under warranty.

My Citreon Xsara is losing water and overheating. I cannot find the source of the leak it is not the rad. Lately my demisters appear to be splashing water in the inside if the wind screen. Today when i got home to my amazement there was a puddle on the passengers side of the car it had coolant in it. The car is a 2001 reg and a clean car. Has anyone got any ideas the engine is running perfect, perhaps its time to lay it to rest.

Ahhhhhh, the wedge!
Hi all, this is my first post, and i am a little desperate, to be honest. My 607 seems to be letting rainwater in and it's collecting in the rear passenger footwell (under the carpet). I have checked the door seals and there is no leak there. A car glass repairer has looked at the front windscreen, and as far as he can tell there is no leak from the windscreen (he unhooked all of the trim around the windscreen and there were no signs of water ingress). Anybody got an ideas where this leak might be coming from? It's blooming annoying, as I love the car (despite its rather poor reviews)!
Any help gratefully received! Many thanks

Today I see car for sale at Lookers a well known group that sells cars. The car was aVauxhall Astra 1.4i 16V Active 5dr / 62 plate and its mileage was just over 12,000 and it was forsale for £8,291 it had just been reduced from £9,495. I filled in the online form to say I was interested in the car and a salesman rang my mobile to discuss it with me. I informed them I had a Fiat Stilo to trade in and he said it was worth £350 - £450. He then went off the phone and said he was looking at the Astra and it was a mistake by the company that the car was forsale for £8,291 and it should have been forsale for over £9000. Strange how he wanted to sell me the car before the trade in even though I had not seen it or taken it for a test drive. And when I mentioned it would be a cash transaction it all went up to a different price. Another company in my bad books that makes two so far !!! Does anybody knows how can I swap 405 engine and transmission to the bigger engine? like 3.0 liter or bigger 3.6 .which car engine and transmission is fixabale.
To get higher performance and accelerato,I need to upgrade break system too.... Read more
If you look on the internet you will a few examples of 405s which have had the 406 3.0 V6 transplanted into it. Companies who offer the service charge many times what the finished car is worth. Furthermore the 406 V6, whilst having a lovely engine, didnt handle nearly as well as the 405, so adding that heavy engine to the front of a 405 wont make it drive better, even if it goes fast in a straight line. And yes, having swapped the engine and gearbox, you would also need uprated cooling and brakes, and suspension.
If you want a faster 405, buy an MI16, they arent slow. If you want it to go faster still, the MI16 engine can be tuned a fair bit. ...

"It's the car manufacturer that specifies, ie recommends, the service schedule."
But car manufacturers often take the view (by the absence of a relevant service schedule) that their auto gearbox does not need any attention ie is "sealed for life" - whatever this means. I believe that the auto box should have a filter clean, where this can be facilitated by simple sump removal and a part fluid change at 50k miles. I realise that other views prevail on this, however.
