Nissan Note - Noise on cold starts - mikeey84

Hi All, over the past few weeks I have noticed a "rumbling" noise after start up, esp when its been cold outside. The Revs seem to be constant, and not bumping up and down, and putting it in and out of gear doesnt make a difference. The engine is not throwing a code

A little bit of throttle does make it disappear, and once the engine is warm its a lot less apparent, although it still appears if I idle too long at roundabout etc.

Any ideas? Its due a service, but I have a feeling that its not related to that. The noise was alot louder this morning than before.

I have a OBDII bluetooth scanner, so can get real time readouts of various sensors etc, if that would help a diagnosis

Thanks!

Which model petrol/diesel are you referring to?

Sorry, a very poor post on my behalf!

It is a

2006 (06) 1.4l Nissan Note SE with about 55k on the clock. Noise seems to come and go, but will only be present at idle, blipping the throttle causes it to disappear, and turning on/off blowers and ac doesnt affect it.

The 1.6 petrol has hydraulic (oil operated) tappets, which require good oil/circulation. I am not sure, without research, if the 1.4 has similar hydraulic tappets. If it has, I would get the service done asap as hydraulic tappets can be noisy at cold start time until the old, thick oil gets hot and circulates properly.

Service pack ordered, so hopefully oil/filters/plugs change will help.

Will be back for some more help if it doesnt!!

So I have changed the oil, oil filter, air and pollen filters (didnt change the sparks as I need to borrow torque wrench) and the noise is certainly less obvious than it was before, however I have noticed that it is significantly louder with the window down, and seems to go away as I move the gear lever around. This is the only thing I have found that makes a difference.

Its a manual btw.

Worth getting the transmission fluid changed?
