Hi All
Last night I have been unlucky to have 'bumped' into a new BMW car in a tunnel. Basically all the vehicles had to stop due to traffic and I was unfortunate to have made a sudden stop which led to my car 'touching' the front car. There is a scratch on his bumper (my front bumper touched his car's back bumper, which gave it a primer scratch) . Since mine is a rental car (which is even brand new), I gave him my contact details so that we could sort the damage out in which ever cheaper way. I got a call from him today saying that he is awaiting a quote from the garage regarding the scratch. I believe it is better to pay it form your pocket rather than let him claim from the insurance or I am not sure how rental cars work in this matter)... Read more
IQ3 1.33. Intermittent problem where power appears to pulsate. This can be at steady speed or when accelerating. It can happen when the car is cold or after many miles. It is as if the power is rapidly coming and going. It is not a violent jerk - more of a seasickness causing 'wobble / shudder'. The car has done 50k miles, fsh. Problem first started proably about 6 months ago and is, I believe, getting more frequent and more noticable.

If you look at the HJ car reviews the egr/cat fault is listed there with a link to more problems in the IQ forums.I live in Germany and if you google the problem it fetches up numerous egr and cat problems.
I have almost agreed to part exchange my A4 and the price offered is £12500. This seems reasonable when looking at the Parkers Guide and I was quite happy until I searched for similar cars on the internet.
The only similar vehicle I could find on the Audi website was the same spec and age but had 6k more miles (Mine has 30k) They are asking £16400.... Read more
When recently back in the UK I heard many radio adverts for them, I guess if you need the convenience or the cash quickly then they'll suit you, I suspect that's their target market ?
Their target market is, I suspect, the customers of payday/instant loans - those who need cash urgently but who are unlikely to get it on favourable terms from a bank....
I have just bought a 2005 Golf Plus 1.6FSI. Does this model have a Dual Mass Flywheel?

I had been looking on the net for a 2010 Vauxhall Astra Exclusiv (VVT) and found one that was at a local dealership in Gloucester. This company is not a large has dealerships in Gloucester, Worcester , Ross on Wye, Cirencester etc.
The car I was interested in viewing was at the Gloucester Dealership and it was for sale for £7500 and had a mileage of 7034 miles on clock . My car was valued at £500 as it is a Fiat Stilo 2002 plate with 64,444 mileage.... Read more
There will be lots of shared parts with the Chevrolet Cruze, save yourself a few quid and get one instead of the astra. Neither will prove reliable, but should be good value in comparison to other similiar size motors.
Hate to disagree daveyK, now on my 4th personal chevrolet since the oldrover45 went on its way. Lacetti estate 1.6 sx, used and abused for house refurb, servicing only while owned. Epica 20 diesel turbo, servicing only, battery failed 1 element, replaced under warranty 3 recalls done satisfactorily. downside was dpf when stopped doing lots of miles so changed at 3 years old expiry of warranty. current cruze as above servicing only. 09 Aveo bought for a mate, servicing only. current aveo bought for a mate power steering fault, replaced under warranty.

Been having starting problems with my 2008 2.8 diesel Chysler Grand Voyager, I suspect low fuel pressure or injector trouble but only done 62K. Where is fuel pump located and what delivery pressure should it give out. Also when engine is running in park or neutral can only get engine revs up to 2.5K is this normal. On the road car runs perfect and engine speed will exceed this figure with no trouble. Read more
Common rail diesel systems are very complicated and require expensive test equpt to carry out correct diagnosis. The high pressure side of the system can work at pressures in excess of 300 bar (4500 psi),so you need to be extremely careful when working on fuel rail system. If you have not got the right gear to test the system,I would susgest you leave well alone.Secondly, most auto gearbox cars will only rev to approx 2.5 k when static. This is normal.hth
In the market for a 2nd hand car and torn between both of these. I've heard the Octavia is better Mechanically but prefer the looks of the Insignia. Got a budget of approx 11k. Any thoughts? Read more
Second the Avensis, good value for money and economical for a petrol engined car of that size.

Fiesta Focus have CVT boxes, you will either love them or hate them. I hate them, all revs and no action.
We have had 2 Micra's in the family, in a totalof almost 9 years of ownership other than servicing and tyres no problems at all. Not absolutely 100% certain but I think the auto box is a propper torque converter one but you will only find rear electric windows on the top models.

Check out the Butterflies and the Vanos diesel engines of this era if they have not been looked after properly can become a nightmare.I would also suggest you post your problem on one of the UK BMW forums.Apart from the two problems I have mentioned they suffer from timing chain problems, turbo activation problems, cam sensor problems as seperate issue the front wishbones are also a major problem. My son and I own a number of BMWs all petrol we have learnt that the diesels of this age are not worth owning unless there providence on the service front can be substaniated even petrols have their own problems but not as many as the diesels.
