Having purchased a '56 SEL model in 2008 with 49K on the clock from a VW main agent, I was suprised to be told at the first MOT that one rear coil spring had broken. The car was 2 days outside its warranty period but VW, when contacted, agreed to pay half the repair cost. Subsequently, up to the present day, the other three coil springs have broken and replaced using genuine VW parts. The car has done75K, mostly motorway, the load carried being my dog.

I contacted VW customer care and contended that the springs fitted were not fit for purpose. They replied that springs were only guaranteed for 2 years.... Read more

What is it with people on this forum, do they want free motoring for ever with someone else picking up the bill.

You bought a 2 year old car in 2008 and now 5 years later you want to complain. Forget it, only Kia garantee cars for 7 years, buy one of those if you want a 7 year garantee....

I have a 2010 1.4 Automatic Corsa. When I turn on the ignition, the oil light comes on for a few second and then goes out BEFORE I start the engine. Is this Correct? Dealer says it is. I am not so sure!

My car was written off. Other parties insurers admit full liability. I have 2 options: A) I allow my insurers to collect the vehicle and have it assessed for value and let them deal with 3rd party, get no courtesy car and have to lay out excess, even though I can reclaim costs.... or B) allow the 3rd parties insurers collect my car for assessment and allow them to deal with me directly and make me an offer, they also won't take my excess off me and will put me in an immediate hire car. They have called me to offer this. Sounds too good, any catch to this, which is best way to proceed. Am I likely to be offered less for the car dealing direct with their insurers ? Will my insurers make a better offer ? Urgent advice needed. Read more

Unless you have written confirmation from the **actual third party insurer**, not some management company, that they will pay for the hire car for a set period, I woul'nt run the risk

I'm a disabled driver and I am looking to get a new car and I'd like some advice on what to get. Can anyone think of a car that has an automatic gearbox, which is either a hatchback or coupe with 2 or 3 doors depending on body style that also has electrically powered seats.

Thank you. Read more

What a helpful and well-written reply that is, Coopsphere, especially where "automatic" gearboxes are concerned!

I have a 1976 Triumph Stag with the original engine which has done 86,000miles. The engine was lively and healthy until I unfortunately was unable to use the car and it was garaged for 2 years. I've started running it again and it goes as well as ever with the exception of a lot of oil burning and crankcase pressure which I never had before.

I'm more or less convinced that I have sticky rings on a couple of cylinders as the car runs like a rocket for 50 or 60 miles but then gradually starts to foul itself and run poorly whilst blue smoking under power. If I then change the plugs it's good for anothe 50 miles, but is still smoky and has significant breathing from the dipstick and oil filler cap.... Read more

Wolfan

The problem appears to be only on two cylinders so that would discount a fault with the breathing arrangement which leaves only piston or ring problems neither of which are likely to be cured without dismantling the engine.

hi all i recently fitted an engine to the above mention vehicle the engine came from a 10 reg transit van with 47000 miles i had to remove from my old engine the injectors fuel pump vac pac alternator starter motor and pretty much anything else that could be unbolted from it and refit to the new 1 + fitted a new dual mass fly wheel .

my problem is before the old engine gave up it was averaging between 45 to 55 to the gallon but now averages between 24 to 30 to the gallon and is quite sluggish for a 130 psi bus . the EGR has also been completely bypassed ... Read more

I have a a 2013 tarmac shredding Mondeo 1.6 tdci 115 bhp with stop start , regen this and that and a load of other stuff and I get a true 55mpg on a fast'ish run and 43 mpg around town so no way did your Transit ever give what you reckon. If you get anywhere near 30mpg, sign on the dotted line.
