Hello,

Yesterday on the motorway in France, my Megane started puffing a blue smoke out of the exhaust. About a mile later the on board computer appeared with the warning injector fault and to stop immediately. I pulled over onto the hard shoulder and there noticed a lot of smoke and heat coming from the engine bay and the car would not start, and hasn't since. I was taken off the motorway by a tow truck and now I am waiting for them to find out what the problem is. I have looked online but I can't see any similar problems with a solution. Any help would be appreciated! Read more

You will find plenty to read on line on HJ and elsewhere, if you look for Laguna 11 (1.9dci) Turbocharger bearing failures, which would appear to be what the problem is.

The clutch on my car went in Nov. 2012, and was replaced by my usual garage,
in June of 2013 after some 3K miles it went again and was duly replaced by the same garage. At the time the garage said they would return the part to the manufacturer via their supplier as it was under warranty. After many phone calls by myself to the garage, the garage to the supplier and the supplier to the manufacturer, the manufacturer finally agreed that the part was faulty and that they would refund the cost £150.00 plus vat. However no mention was made of the labour £450.00 inc. vat. On ringing the Citizens Advice office I was told that
I should not have paid for the work that was done!
This raises 3 major questions for me.

1. If I had not paid the garage, could they have kept my car?

2. Why is the manufacturer not libel for the extra labour costs?

3. Whose side is the law on for heavens sake? I regret not having trained to be a lawyer just so I could have the facts available and earn major money sorting out such confusing and a$#e about face laws.

Just a little thoght, agreeing with the 2 earlier replies, Check these things first, then afterwards less problem, warranty time and conditions on the invoice..

Surely some of these cars are now not economic to repair using Original equipment parts and labour. But the cost of service replacement parts enters precisely what percentage of our heads when we buy?...

My side wing mirror just blow off whilst I was driving. It made a loud bang as though there could be problem with the electrical wiring. Would this be covered under the warranty? Read more

You can only try the dealer and see what they say. I think you'll struggle tp prove it was a fault but OTOH they may know of other instances or treat it as goodwill.

I was behind a VW BlueMotion car this morning.
The "eco-technology" in this car means that it shuts down at each set of traffic lights!

So, it took the driver an age to respond to a traffic light change. Fortunately, I don't live in London. I can see this car causing riots as people behind get slowed down.
Doesn't sound very green, either. Read more

What is your evidence that the bluemotion system caused the hold up? There are plenty of reasons why lights may be missed. The person may also have simply stalled the car.

MoT failure isn't the same as "red ticketed" as used to be - an MoT failure can still be driven home, indeed driven around for a month if the test was being taken early.

MoT failure doesn't automatically make a car unroadworthy or unsafe - if it did, no MoT failure would ever be allowed to drive away from the testing station.

Hi All

Last night I have been unlucky to have 'bumped' into a new BMW car in a tunnel. Basically all the vehicles had to stop due to traffic and I was unfortunate to have made a sudden stop which led to my car 'touching' the front car. There is a scratch on his bumper (my front bumper touched his car's back bumper, which gave it a primer scratch) . Since mine is a rental car (which is even brand new), I gave him my contact details so that we could sort the damage out in which ever cheaper way. I got a call from him today saying that he is awaiting a quote from the garage regarding the scratch. I believe it is better to pay it form your pocket rather than let him claim from the insurance or I am not sure how rental cars work in this matter)... Read more

That's probably not too bad. Go for it.
