hi
I asked you a question last week to which you replied that I should debate/haggle /come to agreement on price due to dealerships inability to diagnose problem!
the saga continues!
after being verbally guaranteed last week by the workshop engineer that if I have the EGR valve replaced at a cost of £400 that would definitely be the problem resolved!
I told them that I could only just afford this work so it MUST be the end of the issue!
they did the work, replaced the EGR valve and rang me to say collect car, then just as my wife got to the dealership they rang again to say there was a further problem but they didn't know what it was?
TODAY,5 days later I get a call saying I need to replace the DPF system at a further cost of £600
I don't know what to do now?
I took my car to the garage, three times they said they knew the problem and could fix it three times I have paid for this and I am now still in the same position as when I first went to them, except for I now have a car that doesn't drive safely but it does have quite a lot of new bits on it!!!!!
please can you advise me again on how I should approach them, should I ask to discuss it only with the manager of Hawkins@st.stephens cornwall where this fiasco has occurred?
I really don't feel that I should have to pay for all of this inconvenience!
I don't want to 'pay under protest' I want my car fixed for the original agreed price they gave me AFTER running " full diagnostics checks......please, who do I report this crap to??
thankyou for your time and I apologise for the angry tone of this message,I am simply at the end of my tether! Read more
This is quite a common practise but I don't know how they get away with it. I was a TV engineer for 50 years and if it wasn't right when I took it back it was down to me to repair it.
I know its a bit late now but you are better off going to a diesel specialist than the dealer, they usually know what they are doing and are generally cheaper.
The low coolant warning light came on and I topped up the radiator with about a pint of water. Very soon after the warning light came on again and the level indicator top was level with the filler neck top. After driving a long way, keeping a careful eye on the temperature gauge, the next morning it just needed a pint to top up but then soon lost that pint. What is going on? There are no obvious leaks and there is no 'mayonnaise' under the oil filler cap so hopefully the head gasket is OK. Read more
Thanks. I'll have the header tank checked for engine gas. As the car is 2001 I guess it will be the end of it if it is. I have come across a treatment claimed to cure head gasket problems. It is put in the radiator. Does anyone know if it works?
I have to organise a diesel car for someone at work. The Directors want to maximise the tax benefits and get 100% capital allowances and so it has to have Co2 emissions at 95 or under.
I know that you can get a Corsa, Fiesta, Rio and I20 at these emissions. Ideally we would like a nearly new / demonstrator at £10-£12k.... Read more
The Corsa is no longer top of its game, that accolade goes to the Fiesta currently, so paying the extra gets a better all round car.
The Rio is pretty well thought of, the i20 is very similar. None are bad cars.
I had to replace the rear wheel bearing on my 06 Fiesta in March. Before I bought it, in the previous owners paperwork was 'replace rear wheel bearing' about a year before.
The old bearing was professionally removed and the new one replaced using a press by an experienced mechanic. Bearing was packed with grease , fitted the right way round and torqued up to the correct setting.... Read more
Rear brakes binding? Drum getting hot? Melted the grease out and trashed the bearing? Or has been driven with the handbrake on - same effect.
Basically I've bought a new car and now require a new headunit for my car, because the spec I bought lacks aux bluetooth etc.
Just wondering if anyone can recommened a decent unit that's reasonably priced? Branding isn't an issue for me.
Thanks in advance Read more
Fit a Parrot MKi9200.
You'll get a far better bluetooth phone system than any OEM fitted system. Also software updates are regularly available, which is usually an issue with OEM fit or head units. There's nothing worse than getting a new phone, only to find that its BT...

So with the imminent arrival of Thrust No 3 and transporting my elderly mother around as well we need to get a 7 seater.
The one I'm looking at is the Renault Grand Scenic. There's a lot of them around and the reviews and reliability record seem good, but with a question mark over the usual French electrical gremlins. They seem to be very competitively priced compared to Fords etc.... Read more
I have owned and driven a Ford S-Max TDCi automatic for three years and about 30,000 miles. With lots of urban driving it does 34 mpg and can cruise at 85mph without difficulty.
Supremely comfortable, nice ride, lots of space and great to drive. ...

The Insignia is not to good and has awful rear headroom if you opt for the hatchback or saloon.
Hmm, you should try sitting in the back of an Audi A5. Audi should be done for misrepresentation for sticking four doors on that. It's a 2+2 with ideas above its station....
not much to worry about with these apart from one exception.Make sure the cam belt water pump have been replaced recently. If the the belt breaks,it is goodbye engine.hth
