I've noticed water on the bottom of the pollen filter in the passenger footwell. It isn't a lot of water, but it eventually drips onto the carpet and it seems to be running down the outside of the filter housing (the filter was bone dry inside).
Tonight I took the glovebox out and the heater blower motor so I could see behind. Everything was bone dry and dusty - no traces of water at all, thought it might have been coming in via the air inlet and working its way through the heater.... Read more

Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of buying a used car, I have been looking at private sales and went to look at a 59 plate corsa. It has a lady owner who bought the car in 2011 and 1 previous owner before her which was a local garage.... ... Read more
I'd also compare prices with cargiant - they have loads of Corsas, Fiestas, Clios mostly higher mileage but you can get a good feel for how much more you're paying to buy lower mileage.
Hi,
A couple of weeks ago my oil light kept coming on when I braked hard. I checked the oil and it was very low, none there. I topped it up. Then before a big journey I checked it again and it was very low again, topped up.... Read more
Modern hoses are pretty good-they don't perish like they used to. But they're not cheap. You can buy rubber hosing in fixed lengths and just cut off what length you require.
I have a Alfa 156 and recently parted with my beloved RX8. Previously the cars I bought just happened, now I can not make my mind up
Logic says I should sell my Alfa and buy something like a A4 convertable, my heart says something like a lotus Elise... Read more

Hi,
I paid £3700 for a Fiat Ulysse on April 19th from a dealer. The auto gearbox has been slipping for awhile now and my garage booked it in for an oil change which they did today. However things haven't improved and I'vee been told by my garage that the auto gearbox is knackered and will cost £1700 to replace. My 3 month warranty expired 10 days ago.... Read more
Sounds a bit of an ordeal.
Unfortunately I don't think the fact that the dealer is an hour away will have any bearing - you should have gone to them first. As for not being able to find them, if you can find them to take them to court, you could have found them to make a warranty claim. This will be the arguments which will come back from the dealer if it goes to court....
Anyone been to Florida recently? I'm told I don't need an idp by most people but others insist you need one. Read more
Here's the answer - I googled it. Report in the Independent, 2 April 2013.
British holidaymakers can now drive legally in Florida without obtaining an International Driving Permit (IDP)....
Hi everyone, your collective insight is requested!
On my way home tonight, my "Check Engine" and "Check 4x4 System" warnings took turns to flash up my display. Initally I feared that a return of my engine repair woes had resurfaced (see here www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=101494), but after turning the interior of my car blue I realised I had just put 30 litres of diesel in the car not more than 5 minutes / 2 miles earlier.... Well the the Toyota dealership have hooked it up and couldn't find anything untoward from the diagnostics. They also removed the EGR valve and cleaned that out on the off chance it was coked up and causing the error codes, just on the off chance.
So basically it's a case of wait and see what happens really, but whatever triggered it, it'sclearly nothing urgent / explosive!
Just bought the above car (from non-dealer) with dealer service stamps up to date but with no other details. Anyone know whats carried out during a routine service? Its got a 12m MOT, 3m warranty etc but curious what to keep an eye on. Read more
not much to worry about with these apart from one exception.Make sure the cam belt water pump have been replaced recently. If the the belt breaks,it is goodbye engine.hth
hi
I asked you a question last week to which you replied that I should debate/haggle /come to agreement on price due to dealerships inability to diagnose problem!
the saga continues!
after being verbally guaranteed last week by the workshop engineer that if I have the EGR valve replaced at a cost of £400 that would definitely be the problem resolved!
I told them that I could only just afford this work so it MUST be the end of the issue!
they did the work, replaced the EGR valve and rang me to say collect car, then just as my wife got to the dealership they rang again to say there was a further problem but they didn't know what it was?
TODAY,5 days later I get a call saying I need to replace the DPF system at a further cost of £600
I don't know what to do now?
I took my car to the garage, three times they said they knew the problem and could fix it three times I have paid for this and I am now still in the same position as when I first went to them, except for I now have a car that doesn't drive safely but it does have quite a lot of new bits on it!!!!!
please can you advise me again on how I should approach them, should I ask to discuss it only with the manager of Hawkins@st.stephens cornwall where this fiasco has occurred?
I really don't feel that I should have to pay for all of this inconvenience!
I don't want to 'pay under protest' I want my car fixed for the original agreed price they gave me AFTER running " full diagnostics checks......please, who do I report this crap to??
thankyou for your time and I apologise for the angry tone of this message,I am simply at the end of my tether! Read more
This is quite a common practise but I don't know how they get away with it. I was a TV engineer for 50 years and if it wasn't right when I took it back it was down to me to repair it.
I know its a bit late now but you are better off going to a diesel specialist than the dealer, they usually know what they are doing and are generally cheaper.

Leif, your experience sounds very similar to mine, although, I waited for the cowboy to take me to SCC for non-payment, he won, got his payment, BUT, I counter-claimed for approx. twice the outstanding payments to correct his bodges and I won the counter-claim, so it ended up with the cowboy paying me.
And Check-a-Trade, not interested one bit, they take their money from anyone and protect no-one apart from the cowboys
