hi, my air conditioning had stopped working a couple of months ago, but as the weather has now changed to a lot warmer, i thought i would have it checked for regassing, it was empty, so had it regassed, worked fine for 2 days, now it has stopped again, if i put air con on it seems to blow warm air , if i turn it off, it blows cooler air with normal fan on ?...any ideas would be grateful . thanks..my car is a 51 plate saloon...2.0 giah x Read more

My Problems all started when driving to work and the brakes started to work intermittently, they would work fine and then would go very stiff and carried on vice versa. On the way home that night I got the warning ESP/ASR not functioning and put the car into a limp mode. I have since taken the car into a garage and have they have replaced the brake servo and vacuum pump. The brakes are working fine again! Problem solved.. Errr No.... Read more
From past experience of having owned a Citroen C5 with this engine, the problem will almost certainly be due to a blocking DPF in the exhaust. This puts the engine into limp home mode which also de-activates ESP/ASR. Your previous vacuum problem would have probably caused the DPF problem as the vacuum operates the turbo & other emissions devices on the engine & probably prevented the DPF from re-generating. If you can drive for 20/30 minutes at a steady 2000 revs in top gear it should re-generate. If not it may need a forced re-gen at a Peugeot dealer with the computer hooked up.
Early models had to have the DPF cleaned or exchanged every 50k miles together with an Eolys fluid refil.
Hi, Alfa seem to do Oil Changes and services as separate items. Do Alfa services always include an oil change ? In the service book there is a separate Service and Oil Change section. If the car had its oil changed as part of a service should both sections be stamped? Or is the oil change section only for oil changes between services? The service interval is 21,000 miles. Apparently Oil changes are when a warning light comes on. Should an oil change be done annually? If so does anything need to be done to the warning light to tell the system the oil has been changed ? Thanks for any help. Durelli (new Alfa owner) Read more

Has anyone else found Autotrader as useless as I have for selling a vehicle in recent months ?
I have been trying to sell two vehicles recently - correctly priced - and get almost zero response from Autotrader while eBay, Gumtree and Preloved adverts generate loads of leads.... Read more
I've used Preloved for a few things - it's a good site and it is free!
I took my 58 reg Mondeo to a Kwik Fit for a brake check last week.
I was told that the rear discs and pads were totally worn, and that the front were near the limit.... Read more
I will probably get Kwik Fit to do the front brakes too. I thought I had misunderstood the brake guarantee, but it do seem that they will replace them free of charge if they wear out again - so I suppose that is worth paying a bit extra.
They'll replace them for free should they wear out again, providing you agree to have any necessary work connected with the brakes, that they deem necessary at the time, carried out as well!...
I am looking to buy a Mazda 6 2.0 TS2. 56 plate (2006) with 75,000 miles. Please could anyone advise when the cambelt would need changing and if there are any significant problems with an engine with this mileage on? Read more
It should also tell you the cam change intervals in the service book.
I've decided that I'm definitely going down the torque converter route with my next automatic rather than double clutches and electronic gizmos. Has anyone got any advice or details of their experiences with the best and worst out there? Do I stick with mercedes in house 7g/5g tronic, often highly recommended? Or what about the others, such as aisin/ZF/jatco/ford-mazda that make up the rest of the market? Read more
The 5speed boxes are no longer 'sealed for life' (what a stupid idea!), and MB recomend an initial ATF oil change at 37K. I've been told it's good practice to change the oil every 37K, which I've not long done on my '56 C Class. It's not a hard job to do with plenty of how-to guides on the MB forums BUT I wouldn't want to do it without the use of a ramp, as it would be more awkward laying under the car.
Everytime you change ATF fluid you also need to change the filter/sump pan gasket as well. Also good practice to change what is know as the pilot bush - this is a cylindrical plastic housing with 2 seals in place, through which the wiring in to the gearbox passes through. In some cases the seals can fail and ATF oil can get in to the wiring loom. Not as big a problem as it once was, but still something good practice to replace for piece of mind....
Hi All

Modern pressure switches are not on/off contact devices. They produce a variable voltage according to the pressure in the system. You really need to get the gas pressure system tested,as no gas means no a/c. There are no particular common faults, but the basics need to be checked first.hth
how could a clutch plate get oil blown past oil seals? crankshaft oil seal if leaky only contaminates small area inside nowhere near cluth plate....
