Hi all. Having issues with the battery charging. When I turn ignition on the battery light doesn't illuminate and when the engines running the battery gauge stays at 12 volts but when you rev it a couple of times the gauge goes up and it starts to charge. Any ideas? Read more

Hi, I have recently changed the cambelt and balance belt on my 2000 (w) 1.8 accord. It's the first Honda belt I've changed and apart from getting the crank bolt off it was pretty straight forward.

A whining noise has developed which is definatly eminating from the cambelt area. A quick read online would suggest I've over tightened the belt, so my question is, is there a way of releasing some of the tension without stripping everything down? Read more

Since you fitted the belt you must know what parts need to be removed to get the the tensioner. But normally you need to be able to get to the longest run to check the tension so removal of most covers is usually essential.

All this assumes that the tension is not automatically done.

Hi, my daughter recently suffered a puncture caused by the condition of the kerb where she parked, In fact the tyres was shredded by the leading edge of a drain/gutter that was so sharp as to be a danger to anyone parking. Some pics are here

the tools belong to my friendly local fella who looks after my cars, I was away for the day and called him to go and give my daughter a hand, I knew we only had a spacesaver, and that she was later driving motorways that day. He changed the tyre on the wheel, binned the spacesaver and supplied a full size spare steel wheel for future such emergencies

I have got a ticket for parking in a disabled bay with a badge clearly displayed on the car it is a parking charge notice for Apcoa parking at Livingston shopping in Scotland. It is for £40 pounds £20 if paid in 14 days, the offence is for failing to display a valid permit when a disabled badge was clearly displayed on the dashboard. Do I just ignore this still. Read more

I cannot see in the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 that Schedule 4 which deals with Parking Charge Notices applies to Scotland.

Had to visit a Mercedes showroom this week to get new batteries for remote key fob. £9!!! Apparently a new key fob is over £200 which seems mouthwateringly expensive too. The showroom I visited was glitzy in the extreme, in a prime business park location and as a customer I was greeted by not one but two charming receptionists who actually seemed to have nothing to do. The techy guy was also polite and helpful. And I am sure the coffee and newspapers were excellent as well.

Got me thinking though. Why do we need this glitzy extravaganza on offer when we buy a car and then get it serviced? Has anyone got any information on how much of the service labour rate is for the fancy premises and overheads? Interesting to hear if anyone does.... Read more

I've got a MK1 Focus Diesel and just lately it's been difficult to start. I commute about 40 miles a day and don't use it for short journeys so it should have ample time to charge the battery.

I replaced the battery and alternator about 18 months ago but it's showing all the symptoms of a battery that won't hold enough charge.... Read more

I am selling my car and a guy from Ireland (not sure what part) has txted and then after my reply emailed me asking if its still for sale. He asked me what the best price was and asked me to send more photos which I did and I did not budge on my asking price. He emailed back to say he thought the price was reasonable and would like to buy the car and pay through PayPal he would then get the car shipped to Ireland at his own cost. He also said he wanted the car as its his sons birthday in a few weeks and would like to get it for him and the others that he has seen have all had something wrong with them or had been in an accident. I am selling a 2008 Toyota Yaris d4d SR Nav. Has anybody heard of a scam of this form? I've read that the scam usually involves a cheque but thiis guy is willing to use PayPal? I am a trusting person so want to believe this man is genuine but on the same hand I do not want to be scammed. Any advice would be much appreciated :) Read more

Can anyone shed any light on why my brake light bulbs keep failing? I've replaced the left one twice and the right one three times in the last 9 months. Read more

Hi,

I know it’s an old post but mine was doing the same. The bulb should be a double filament. When the brake light failure message came on I replaced the build with an advised one but they kept blowing when I had my night lights on. Checked the other side and it’s a double filament because it’s a stop tail bulb.
