I have a brand new Hyundai i10 and I can only get around 30mpg, although I bought this city car as it was avertised as doing around 57mpg. Has anyone else got the same problem.
Also, found out Hyundai have just lost a big court case in America when Hyundai mlotorists took them to court over them stating cars did more mpg than what they actually did. Read more
I have had my car from new. Far from faultless, the Turbo blew at 46K (and BMW didn't want to know) but it now has 60K on the clock.
For the last 20K it has felt flat below 2,000 RPM and treated the following car to a cloud of brown/black smoke under hard acceleration, especially in kick-down.... Read more
hi mate....
Hi All,
I have a Renault Laguna II 2001 as my first car and having a couple of issues with it.... Read more
My LagunaII has recently been lumpy on start up and then stalling. The next time I'm slowing down for Lights etc,the revs drop like a stone then it takes a while to start again. I parked up for ten minutes, came back and it's been running perfect for the last two days. Very strange!!
Right,
Need some advice is possible please... Read more
Go for the petrol. I bought a W reg CLK 3.2 with 90k on the clock 4 years ago and it'on 145k now. Check the pads and discs and the service history for peace of mind. I can get 30mpg plus with a light r foot and the insurance is reasonable. Merc owners club can give you lots of advice.
Hi I've seen a Nissan Micra 1.0 E 2003 for sale. It's on at £350. Says engine turns over but not firing and diagnostic by aa says its cam sensor.
Has done 54000 miles. Mot expires on Friday. Has previous mots. Is it worth buying? Ay ideas as to how much it will take to repair?
Thanks Read more
The fault on this car will be the timing chain worn it always shows as cam sensor and will be caused by lack of oil changes. Avoid !
the other day i went to start the car, it turned over but wouldn't start. i tried again & it wouldn't turn over at all. it sounded like my starter motor had gone (it had that clicking sound when the starter motor packs in), so i tried to bump start it & still nothing. so i got the starter motor checked & then had it changed. now it turns on the key but the engine isn't turning over, i looked in the oil filler cap & my cams are not turning (i thought my cambelt had snapped :( but it hasn't :s).
can any one help with any idea's to what could be wrong because i'm totally pugled! Read more
I think they are so called 'interference' engines, meaning that the pistons will give the valves a bit of a bashing when the cambelt goes.
Not necessarily scrap though, how much are valves thes days for one of these? Not much I bet. In fact I bet you could straighten the valves with a bit of time, a small hammer and a positive attitude. They are made specially soft near to the head as they do need to deform in operation....
I need some advice as i get the impression that im being taken advantage of by garages, which does not surprise me as im not technically clued up on the issues with my car.
I had a full service completed on my car and it was due to have its MOT a couple of months later. Up until then i had had no problems with it. After servicing it started to cut out often and i finally had it picked up by a garage, where they told me the head gasket and timing chain had gone, i would therefore be better off getting a new engine than having it fixed. Due to ill health i have had to reduce the number of hours i work so i cant afford some of the prices i have seen for a 1.0 engine.....what would others advise? As my car is on finance i am stuck with it, it has now been off the road for almost a year : ( Read more
I'd get someone else to have a look, ask friends and family if they know any garages they trust. Mobile techs can be quite good, more in it to do a job of work and get some honest cash, compared to landed concerns who view their customers as a money mine.
A 1 litre Corsa ain't rocket science, I reckon you'd get an honest appraisal for £30 for an hours work from anyone with a few spanners, a laptop and an op-com in the van. Call a few up and tell them how you fear getting ripped off and just want to know whats wrong with it....
I am trying to find out the last date when the BMW 1 Series Diesel was manufactured WITHOUT this dreaded filter. I am considering to purchase such a vehicle. Mike. Read more
Also i feel that dpf aside that diesels cope with short journeys better than petrol due to the lack of water given out by diesel hence being better for the exhaust and also diesel contains more lubricating properties than petrol and hence doesn't wash the bores as much as petrol on short runs.I might be wrong about the above but my previous petrol car was a nightmare for reliability where as the diesel has been faultless.
Good point.
Warning I am not a mechanic but it worked for me. I am not advising anyone to do this and there is no come back to me if it goes wrong but it worked for me, so I am letting everyone know what I did.

Has anyone been approached by the above company? I had a trivial "accident" a couple of years ago where the car in front gently rolled back into mine at traffic lights and its tow bar put a golf ball sized dent in my front bumper. We swapped insurance details, the other driver freely admitted liability, the dent was quickly repaired and I had a courtesy car for a day. There was no personal injury at all. CCS tell me there's a fund available for me to tap into if I say I was injured (in fact, it's double because my wife was a passenger with me) - they say this fund consists of money put up by insurance companies and will go begging if it's not claimed. They've presented me with a legal contract for them to pursue my claim, this form states "neck injuries" lasting "8 weeks" ....pure fabrication, as I told them nothing of the sort. I am therefore not pursuing this as I feel I'm perjuring myself.
Just wondered if anyone had any experience of this company, or this kind of claim in general? Does this "fund" really exist? I can see why insurance premiums keep going up. Read more
If a victim of this type of operation reported the situation to the police, would they investigate with a view to a fraud prosecution?
No! Plod are not interested at all, but Insurance companies should excercise their right to get the evidence tested in court....
