Hi there,
Sorry to raise this old subject again, I've read all the posts I can find on here without a solution. The ign key no longer wants to turn so I need to get the barrel out. I have no pin hole to poke a paperclip in, I can't see any circlips, there is an indented 'hole' on top of the barrel housing but it is solid so no go. I have read on here the barrel is held in by a silver cap that is crimped over the barrel and this seems to be what I have, question is, how can I remove this cap without causing too much damage? Just to confuse things I live in Spain but the car is a German import.... Read more
some 6 dignostics all show same result that the fuel air mix is lean. On correction car runs for approx 20 miles with no warning light and then it comes on again. Both relevant Bosch sensors have been replaced and the catalytic converter cleaned. No difference to petrol consumption and the garage confirms no adverse effect on performance. Have driven some 2000 miles with this apparent fault. Can I just ignore it and could it cause a problem with MOT. Read more
There are no specific sensors that relate to a lean mixture. All the sensors on the engine are used to maintain a correct air fuel ratio depending on engine load/speed etc.I would guess you mean the lambda sensors have been replaced, probably for no reason.I would take a look at the air intake and breather, and vacuum pipes circuits.Any leak here will cause a lean mixture fault to be logged.Take it to a garage that have a smoke machine. This should identify any problem areas.hth

We hired a Fiat Panda from First Car Rental (Active Car Rental) in Malta recently. I don't suppose that there is a great deal to choose between the "budget" companies, so I'm sure that my experience this week was not all that unusual. I collected the pre-booked vehicle from a small "downtown" office. The staff were very helpful and friendly, but the documentation took ages and then we had to walk around the block a time or two to even find the vehicle, as parking around there is impossible.
We then went over the car with the finest tooth-comb I've ever met and every tiny scratch or dent was marked on the booking out sheet, No bad thing in a way, but a bit tedious. I also had to pay €30 up front for half a tank full of fuel. Assuming that the Fiat Panda holds about 40 litres that would be about right, but, as normal, the instruction was to return the tank empty. Unnecessarily stressful and alien to our normal careful philosophy. As it happened, I guess there was at least a gallon in the tank when I took the car back, so the hire cost another €8 or so. A bit irritating, I suppose, but no big deal. The guage also indicated less than half a tank on checkout; I queried it, and was told that "it's the usual position". Again, a bit irritating, but no more.... Read more
Trouble is that there's a clause in the small print on the back of their form which allows a subsequent inspection "by the cleaning team" to raise reports of "damage" not noted by the guy to whom you return the car. Who ever reads the small print to that extent? But it does, of course, leave the hapless punter utterly exposed. I think that this company is reasonable and am convinced that the damage was caused by a passing third party after we had returned the car. But it was the firm's reponsiblity if the window or door was left open when I had handed back the keys to their agent in the street.

Day one: This is Britain’s cheapest new car. It costs £5995 for which you get a five door hatchback with no central locking, no radio, no electric windows and only available in white. What it does have is an engine to make it go, brakes to make it stop and windows to keep draughts out. Trivia nerds will note that the actual glass is common across all Dacia models. It’s one of they ways they can afford to sell their cars so cheaply. The interior plastics are grey and stark, the doors are big and hollow-sounding, there are very few buttons. It feels a bit like a van. There’s nothing wrong with that. Vans are quite functional. This is too.... Read more
they really ought to do something about those names though......

Opcom off ebay £20 will diagnose Vauxhalls back to the start of OBD2, but if you're not into diesels, the interpretation of the diagnosis may take some head scratching. Or googling.
This isn't quite right, Ford keys are cut by reading the code of the old key (this can be done by eye), then the Tibbe machine will cut a new one as it should be. They are not a like for like copy as such. Look it up, it will explain it better all about how Ford keys work.
If you get just a plain key cut, you will be able to see if this solves your problem, with regard to the immobiliser chip in your old key, if you hold it next to the barrel whilst using the new key, the car should still start.
