Most car dealers including local franchised showrooms tend to advertise on Autotrader these days, so is as good a place as any.

All tyres on the car have a tread of 5mm 0verall with the exception of the OS Rear Inner which is 1.8mm -- anybody any ideas as to why as as a layperson if the camber is wrong then both rear tyres would be worn to the same amount.

On cars with independent rear suspension, one wheel may have the wrong camber but not the other - but if the camber's wrong it normally wears as a gradient across the whole tyre, not just on the edge.

Sounds more likely that the rear toe-in is wrong for one wheel....

The Vauxhall Corsa is known for having a fault in which the camshaft bolts aren't tight enough and the camshaft snaps as a result of being flexed too much if this is left unchecked.
What I need to know is if a car (2005, 69000 miles) has loose camshaft bolts, but the camshaft hasn't snapped, if the bolts are tightened will that eliminate the problem, or due to the extra wear the camshaft has undergone will it be likely to snap anyway?

You won't need new bolts just to tighten them up a bit. You will need a small torque wrench with low values if you want to do it by the book, I think they're only about 8Nm, which seems barely tight enough if you dare to do it by hand.

Don't do it by hand if you have big hands and a tendency to add an ounce for luck.

When ignition key is turned the starter does NOT ALWAYS turn.

First I thought it a solenoid fault, so the starter motor with solenoid were replaced.... Read more

Why not try connecting a bulb to the starter motor supply at the solonoid. Next time it fails to turn over, see if the bulb lights. If not, progressively move th light connection back up the circuit untill you determine which component is causing the issue. Cheaper than substitution by guesswork.

If you want a faster diagnosis, why not connect several bulbs to the different parts of the circuit and label them. Then next time the problem occurs see which doesn't light to determine where the fault lies....

was just wondering if anyone knew if you could get a custodial sentence imposed for a speeding offence??

My other half had a 6 month ban which was only lifted 10 months ago for totting up. The other day he was caught doing 117mph!!! We know he will most certainly get banned again, but is it possible he could go to prison????... Read more

In fairness to Cris, he was perhaps thinking that 117 in a 50 limit would look a hell of a lot worse than 117 in a 70/nsl.

I've received a magistrates court summons (no option to plead via post, have to attend in person), just wondering what fine i'm likely to get? not too worried about the points as my licence is clean, but cant afford a hefty fine. As it happens i cant afford a solicitor so i'll be representing myself. I will be pleading guilty, and to be honest i didnt exacty cover myself in glory. But that said the other guy was just as much to blame but he reported me first and got a witness to back him up. So it's me in court not him! I'm hoping the court will allow me to explain my actions as his statement is conveniently missing any liability on his part. Basically he pulled a dangerous manoevure on me, cut me up, there was a bit of aggro between us (him brake tapping, me flashing headlights), then after i overtook him, he deliberately sped up, and we made contact as i came back into lane. Minor damage, but i didnt stop as i thought he was trying to ram me off the road. we reported each other, but he got in there first and i didnt catch his reg plate.

Anyone else experienced similar to this? how big is the fine likely to be? i've heard it's based on weekly wage...? my net weekly wage is about £500, but theres never anything left to show for it and i dont have any savings. Thanks in advance Read more

It all seems to hinge on the fact that the OP changed lane and in fact caused the accident. I assume that he was hoping nothing would come of it and wouldn't have contacted the police if the other driver hadn't done so.

However bad the other driver's behaviour had been, a collision could have been avoided had the OP not taken the bait....

Hi there, wondered if anyone can help with advice on the below?

I bought my VW Passat from a franchised Toyota dealer in November 2012. As part of the agreement before picking up the car they said they would do a service on it as the service indicator was blinking on the dash cluster.... Read more

I have owned this car for one year now. On about 6 occasions when I have attempted to use the accelerator to increase my speed there is no increase in speed or power. The car tends to stay at the same speed or increase speed very, very slowly. An unnerving experience. The one thing that cures it is if I stop the car and turn the engine off and on again. I would be grateful for any ideas as to the cause of this problem. I really like the car in most other respects. Thank you. Read more

My Ibiza is approaching 60k in 2 years and hoping to keep it for 2 more. Does anyone know of any faults with this engine that I should look out for or is it a reliable design?

Appreciate any info.... Read more
