I'm in the market for an approved used auto hatch for between 8 & 10k. My biggest concern is reliability but I would like to get something which handles nicely and has a bit of poke. I do about 12000 miles a year which rules out a diesel. I live in quite a hilly area and would look to sell the car after 2-3 years.
I keep changing my mind but i think I've narrowed it down to the below, does anyone have experience of these cars? Are there any obvious contenders I've missed?
09/10 Honda Civic 1.8 (not the I-shift)
09/10 Mazda 3 2.0 TS2
09/10 Renault Megane 2.0 CVT (like the look of the coupe)
The Megane comes in at the bottom end of the budget but the other 2 will probably hold their value more when it comes to selling, the Renault / Nissan CVT seems quite reliable but is it any good to drive? Read more

I have had my car from new. Far from faultless, the Turbo blew at 46K (and BMW didn't want to know) but it now has 60K on the clock.
For the last 20K it has felt flat below 2,000 RPM and treated the following car to a cloud of brown/black smoke under hard acceleration, especially in kick-down.... Read more

Is the stereo aftermarket or fitted as standard.I doubt its standard as we didn't have dvd's in 1996.If its an aftermarket one then is there a name or model number on it?

The advice to print off adverts from autotrader and average them is not how an Insurer values a car.
They will value it using the price guides eg glasses or cap or Parkers, if the prices of these guides do not agree they will use the average of these....

hi im just wondering if any one has had this problem before.
my window wipers work fine on all settings apart from auto (when u push the lever down so it wipes once) the wiper will come up but stick half way back down i have to keep tapping the switch down to line it back up.... Read more

I have a flashing climate control display on start up on my 56 reg Galaxy Ghia. While flashing, what I presime is an error code of 88 is displayed in several places. The air con seems to have stopped working although the blowers etc work. I am in France and the language problems will make it difficult to discuss with a French garage. Does anyone know how I can find out if this is an error code and what it means? Read more
If the pump has faile don one of these they need the pipework removed and cleaned thorughly otherwise a replacement pump will fail again ! common problem on these.

Hi hope you can help. I've got a Picasso 1.6 LX 2003(52) and all of a sudden the engine won't turn over. It was running fine then wouldn't turn over. The date/time has reset to Jan 2001. Also there is a beeping sound when I turn the key with messages about airbag fault, immobiliser and low fuel (although it has half a tank). I tried to jump it but no luck. I've heard various opinions that it could be a completely dead battery, the immobiliser or the starter motor. I don't know if its relevant but there was a very heavy downpour at the time. Thanks all for your suggestions, had an extended look at the Mazda 3 and the Civic and have to say the Civic had a certain x-factor that just gave it the edge (possibly to do with the extras and gadgets that come with the EX trim).
Auto box was very smooth, the engine did have to be revved a bit but it certainly had as much if not more power than my current Astra 1.8....
