have owned a 06 t180 for 5 months. It was first registered march 10th 06. Toyota dealer diagnosed headgasket failure during intermediate 70k service. Informed that the job entails 12-15 hours labour, estimated cost £1800. Research on forums indicates that a weakness was identified with this engine and warranties were extended to 7 years/120k. As my car is now one month over the 7 years but with lower mileage where do i stand? Dealer is initially not forthcoming. The car has full Toyota service history. If toyota have honoured claims with new engines or headgasket refits from 06 to 08 vehicles, egine now withdrawn, are they not recognising a weakness and therefore fault in the product, and therefore admitting liability and therein still responsible regardless of the warranty period lapsing? Any advice would be helpful. Read more
It probably had the problem when you bought it and only became apparent during service. If you bought from a dealer then:-
"The amendments to the Sales of Goods Act (EC Directive 1999/44/EC) that came into force on 31st March 2003 now place the burden of proof on you ‘the car dealer’ for the first six months after a purchase. ...
Hi
Have been issued with a court summons today for two tyres that were below 1.6 mm. I was given a Vehicle defect rectification ticket at the time and was told i had 14 days to get the tyres replaced.
I did this and have the reciept to prove this but i didn't send the form back and no longer have it. I just assumed that if i was stopped again i could prove i changed the tyres and did not expect to go to court.
My question is do i plead guilty or do i plead innocent and use the receipt as proof that i replaced the tyres.
Does anyone have an idea of the fine i can expect.

Thank you FP - fair as always. I'm going to close this thread now. Ron has had some advice from those who were inclined to be helpful rather than judgmental, so it has served its purpose.

My car was vandalised a few nights ago and I am now considering fitting one of those car cams that fit on the interior of the windscreen.
There are many car type cams on ebay but they appear to be just for recording when you are driving, or are they for surveillance use as well?... Read more

hi....I want to check my heater matrix for leaks.....but the car also has aircon. These aircon pipes also enter via the heater's cover under the bonnet. Is it possible to remove the cover, and aircon pipes, without de-pressurising the aircon system? [To get the heater matrix out] Read more

Hi folks, looking for some advice.

I'm really struggling to find a car because every time I think I see something good, I read the reviews on here and it puts me off, latest example is a 05 Focus Edge 1.8tdi with 80k miles.
Criteria as follows:
Good mpg
Power in engine when needed
Space, I'm 6ft 6
Pref a hatchback
Reliability
Open to suggestions folks, any input appreciated. Thanks Read more

Can anyone tell me if a finance company reposesses a car can they write off 50% of the finance paid out as bad debt in corporation tax and then sell the car ?
Thanks in advance Read more
I can now update on my situation. We did not sign any paperwork with the Dealer to authorise them to sell our car on our behalf. We did not leave our vehicle with the Dealer on a Sale or Return basis. The Dealer arranged finance on our car with a well known finance company and they were paid the money by the finance company. The Dealer then ceased trading. We knew nothing of the transaction having taken place until we went to sell our car and there was a HPI note of interest placed on our car by the finance company. We went to the police who informed us that we had not suffered any loss we had the 2 sets of keys the car and the V5 so therefore no fraud had been committed. 1 week later we were served with court papers the finance company were claiming title to our car. We then entered into lengthy court proceedings which cost in total £9,500 two days before the court was due to hear evidential evidence the finance company offered us £5k for our car on the condition that we paid our own expenses and they paid theirs we refused. They increased their offer to £10k then £12k then finally £14k again on the proviso each party paid their own expenses. They initially paid out £23k on the car to the Dealer they were now offering us £14k so in total they were paying out £37k on a car that showed a book value of £17k and they had their own fees to pay we estimated in the region of £6k making a total outlay of £43k. We accepted their offer based on the fact that we had already paid out £9,500 in solicitors fees and stood to pay if we lost the court action another £10k as well as their fees of £6k total we stood to loose £25,500k. I am disgusted that the finance company Santander Consumer Finance took this matter as far as they did hoping that we would crumble and walk away we would have loved to go the whole way with this but the effect it has had on my wifes health and the stress we have both suffered during this 10 month ordeal has been immense. A word of warning to others the finance company will try to use bully boy tactics they will also hope that you will not fight your corner. Please do not leave your car with a garage on a Sale or Return basis despite the fact we did not do this they tried to say we did and in the end when we could prove that we did not they did not have a case but in civil law it is based on probability. Tony G I can assure you that the figures I quote are indeed accurate and yes everyone we tell our story too can't believe how something so clearly fraudulent could take place and the finance company would come after the person who has nothing to do with the transaction but we all know wny it's because they had no one else to go after to try and get the money back they had foolishly paid out to a rogue dealer....
Hello all,
I'm looking for a bit of advice. My wife currently has a (pink!) Daihatsu Charade, 04 with nearly 100k on the clock. We've had it for around 6 years, and I suppose you could say its done the job albeit it with a few hiccups here and there.... Read more
I'm 6ft 2 and agree that as a driver it's comfortable enough however, that's with the seat as far back as it would go. In that position, there was a gap of about 3 inches for a rear seat passengers legs. Even with a short driver, there wasn't enough headroom in the back for me.
It doesn't sound as though interior room would be an issue for the OP with a shortish wife and a young son, so in my view, definately a car to consider.
Hi just brought a 2001 fiesta 1.3 and the heater only blows cold no matter where the heater dial is placed. I have flushed the coolant system and heater matrix, replaced the water pump , thermostate and heater control valve and fully bled the coolant system so coolant fan kicks in. I have rechecked the coolant level all o.k . I have tested the voltage to the coolant control valve and ranges between 0-1 volt but this should default it into blowing hot but still I only have cold air. Please any advice would help its driving me mad
Thank you Read more
Tried removing the 2 pin plug no improvement. The heater matrix has been flushed and is clear also when engine warms up and heater motor not switched on both inlet and outlet of matrix are very hot but when heater motor switched on it looses its heat very quickly
