I have a petrol avensis and it also has a heavy clutch. I tested another avensis a few weeks ago and although that was better it was no way near as light as I have experienced in some of the older Toyotas. I have been told by a Toyota specialist that althoughn changing the clutch will make it lighter and easier to press, the avensis just has a heavier clutch then most comparable cars.

I declared a SORN for my motorcycle as the insurance was due to expire but now wish to get it back on the road. I read on http://www.findlaw.co.uk/law/motoring/vehicle_tax/9932.html that you could go to and from a pre-approved MOT without tax, however I'm not sure when this was written an on the DVLA website https://www.gov.uk/register-sorn-statutory-off-road-notification it seems to imply that only applies if you are a 'motor trader'.

Does anyone have a definitive answer to this (preferably with an official source or citation)? Read more

So the DVLA website is actually incorrect! I did a bit more digging and found http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1994/22/schedule/2 - search for 'testing', I will get the insurance sorted and should be good. Thanks for the advice

My wife's Mini Cooper Convertible 1.6 (Registered Mar 2006) needs all tyres replaced. Please can you advise what best all round tyres I should use?

Many thanks... Read more

I really don't think anyone can advise you of any particular make or type of tyre to fit - it's down to where you drive and what you want out of a tyre! Do you want a 4-season tyre which you don't need to change when we get ice and snow, or will you simply not take the car out in icy weather? Is all your driving on well-surfaced roads where a tyre with a quiet tread pattern and low rolling-resistance would be ideal, or will you be going down farm tracks where a tyre with a grippy tread patern would be better? Is the car driven in a 'sporty' manner down winding country roads, where a 'performance' tyre is a must, or do you drive with restraint, not wasting fuel, in which case a 'premium' tyre would be cheaper? Do you want a symmetrical tread pattern where the wheels can be swapped around from side to side, or 'directional' tyres which must be correctly fitted to rotate in the correct direction? So many choices, so many decisions! Whatever you see and think may suit, look them up on a Tyre Review Site such as www.tyrereviews.co.uk before you buy. And - in my opinion - buy a respected European or Scandinavian brand, not something from the other side of the world where they haven't learn how to make rubber, yet.

My problem is on a Honda CRV diesel (man) 2005. The light on the AC air flow control is now flashing thus making the AC inoperative – although the heater is working perfectly and I as far as I know the air conditioning is in working order. I have been quoted (by the local Honda dealer) a total of £733!!!! to rectify this problem.
This consists of: new heater control panel £583.87 + VAT and £27 labour + VAT. Has anyone encountered a similar problem and could advise me of an alternative or a second opinion. Read more

Are you sure the gas isn't low. This might indicate as a flashing light to warn you and will also make the air-con not work.

I would take it to an aircon engineer to look at first.
