Has anyone ever taken too long between paying for parking and leaving the car park, in one of those car parks where you take the ticket and pay when you return, then use the ticket to raise the barrier. Today, someone hadn't paid and of course couldn't get out, creating a massive queue behind, we waited ages and I just wondered how much time you have between paying and leaving. Read more

It's fine if people do actually pay on their way back to the car. I think they give ten minutes or so. It's when people try to buck the system and pay on their way from the car, assuming they are going to be back quickly the problems start.

The speed has started to zero its self and shows no MPH, after a few secongs it comes back on works perfectly for days. This happens at no particular speed. Once the cars milage read out also went off but then both came back on.

Any suggestions as to why and what can be done. Read more

Have just done a deal to part ex my 2002 Mondeo 1.8 petrol for a 2007 407 diesel. Got £500 for the Mondeo and new car is going to have 12months tax and mot. Also pushed the dealer to a lifetime warranty with auto guard. Anyone know if the warranty is any good?

The car is a Focus CC3 2.0 litre diesel which has recently come up with a message saying there is a fault with the engine system management. I ran the self test mode and all was OK except for the above error code. Having Googled this code it said something about "PATS Received Incorrect Key-Code From Ignition Key Transponder" which may as well be a foreign language to me. The car runs fine, no problems at all. Both ignition keys are the originals.
Anyone able to explain what this means and how to correct it. Read more

When the forum was revamped in early 2010 three of us volunteered - Boris the Spider, Well-known Sid and myself. The other two don't often post but are around usually in the mornings and intercept spam. I check the forum most evenings.

Sorry - nothing more exciting or sinister than that!

I had a similar problem with an Hdi C5 and it turned out to be the HP diesel pump. It was only doing it when cold initially then the engine got more and more difficult to start especially when hot, I changed the pump and it cured everything - might be something completely different of course.

EEC regulations did not allow government to support financially. Should have ignored like the French did with Renault / Peugeot. We are too honest a nation.

Hi there, I am considering buying an old diesel Golf or Passat. I have seen them in AutoTrader for less than a grand but with astronomical milage. High milage it's self doesn't worry me but is there a point when everything is worn out or about to be?

Any advice will be welcome or are there any makes that you would recomend. Read more

I know you're probably after good fuel economy. Although the golf tdi is economical, after that kind of mileage it's also possible that it may cost a fortune to keep going.

With only a thousand quid to spend, I can't think of anything better than a petrol toyota corolla to risk my money on.
