VW Passat Tdi PD sport (2000} - Loss of acceleration. - epictrader

I have owned this car for one year now. On about 6 occasions when I have attempted to use the accelerator to increase my speed there is no increase in speed or power. The car tends to stay at the same speed or increase speed very, very slowly. An unnerving experience. The one thing that cures it is if I stop the car and turn the engine off and on again. I would be grateful for any ideas as to the cause of this problem. I really like the car in most other respects. Thank you.

It would help if you could get the car scanned for fault codes with VCDS, either at an independent garage for a small fee, or from someone local who could do it for free. There are a couple of UK-centric VW forums on the net, search for them and they will have user locations for those with the software. For 'beer tokens' they can be extremely helpful in pin-pointing exactly what is wrong with your car.

It could be a turbo under/overboost but I would suspect at some point it should drop into limp mode.
