It's developed a fault - that's what the light's for!
It could be any one of hundreds/thousands of specific faults so you'll need the diagnostic codes reading to identify the fault - that's a chargeable cost just for the diagnosis - any Vauxhall dealer can do that but a good independent will be cheaper.
You can buy handheld diagnostic readers for DIY use but they won't all cope with Vauxhall diesels of that age so check the suitability if you do buy one.
