I was hit from behind on a roundabout early last November. I forwarded the sketch and all details to my insurance company (Churchill) within a week but they say the other side (Tesco Insurance) has not responded despite many telephone calls and letters. The insurance companies have a "protocol" after 3 months which is supposed to be a time limit for their exchange of information. Currently I am an "unresolved" claim so I have to pay the full excess on repair of my car which is £350 and have lost my no claims bonus until this issue is decided. Clearly I believe I am not to blame as I was hit from behind after entering the roundabout without changing lanes and there is no damage to my car except to the rear skirt. I cannot complan to my insurance company because they have done everything they say to get a response from the other side. I have written to the Financial Ombudsman Service but do not expect much to happen as I cannot complain about my insurance company.. There are rumours from my insurance company the other side are going to claim for whiplash and stress etc although the impact was only about 10mph speed difference. Am I about to become the victim of compensation society as a result of insurance companies settling 50/50?

Just wanted to say a really big thank you to HJ for the really excellent advice he gavce me when I needed to purchase a second-hand estate car and was tempted to go for a 4-5 year old Audi A4 Avant.

His general advice was, and I paraphrase here - 'if you're not too bothered about having the status symbol four rings on your radiator grill, go get a Seat Exeo ST'.... Read more

My car has just failed the MOT. The emmissions are high. The Lambda is ok but the CO has difficulty getting to the required reading. The lambda is only a couple of years old. Is there any way of finding out and checking which parts are playing up ? Thanks Read more

Good 10 mile burn up in the morning to wake it up, good 10 mile burn up just prior to the test to get the cat sizzling.

Then they just ignore you for half an hour while all your good work goes to waste

Hi could anyone tell me where the tachometer sensor is located on the 1.6td model.

My car was originally fitted with the large analog clock next to the speedo, but I like rev counters, so I fitted one taken from a 1.9tdi but it is not working. I am assuming that being fitted with the clock, there won't be a sensor fitted on this car. I have heard all sorts of ideas where it might be located like, engine block under the oil filter (not there) somewhere on the bell housing (not there) on top of the timing belt cover,or even driven by the alternator but I can't find where it should be fitted. I would appreciate any help Thanks. Ken... Read more

Hi everyone must be honest I love the forums on here they very helpful. Just to say I had problem with power loss on my seat leon. I was told it was the egr . But I've now worked it out for myself. I had read in manual that I should use super unleaded petrol for better performance. So that's what I was using. The car seemed to get worse. It was only when I pulled into a garage cos realised need petrol and they never had any super so thought ordinary unleaded would do this once. An straight away there was no power loss my car flew like it did wen I first had it. So I hope this post helps you out there Read more

I am interested in any experience of ownership of high mile oil burners. Any make or model, any problems. What are considered to be the best ? Mileage recorded etc.

My current car is a Seat Exeo 143 diesel SE. 37 months old, 93,000 miles. Full main dealer service history and just seems to get better after each mile. Read more

My cousin's V-reg V Golf TDI 90hp has recently passed 200K miles, still going well.

Perhaps THE most revered diesel is the 3-litre non-turbo M606 engine in the W124 Mercedes E-Class, 1993-1996 vintage. Only 130bhp ish, but simple with no turbo, no ECU. Runs sweetly on veg oil. Keep it maintained and run it regularly and it should give 500K miles without major complaint....
