Hi

I bought a Peugeot 206 on 15th March 2013. The advert (ebay) said: "I put second hand speedo clock on it as the existing one stopped working it shows150,000 miles but has only done 85,000 miles". He had the car a year and had no paperwork (MOTs etc) from the previous owner. I took a friend who said the engine sounded good and so we took it in good faith that this was the case as per ebay advert.... Read more

Hi,

Car just had full service few weeks back... exhaust pipe replaced
60,000 mileage.... Not added much mileage since service.... Have experienced power failure....problem with power/acceleration... most noticable going uphill.... No warning lights on dashboard... No diagnostic codes.... Have been told both cats ie. whole exhaust system needs replacement..... Is it right that this wouldn't / couldnt have been noticed when service checks carried out..?...

I've been having this unusual problem with the Vectra. Traction Control is engaged under these conditions: 1. when gear shifts to R, 2. when braking hard 3., when cruising. These TC problem does not happen when car is cold but only when normal engine temp 90 degrees celcius is reached. I have changed the fluid and probem persist. What coulld be the problem? Read more

I was driving along and the alternator clutch pulley seems to have sheared in half, snapped the belt and the engine is sprayed with fine irom filings. The only warning was a light buzzing or vibrating noise for a few minutes before. Then the stop and battery light came on.

So, the pulley is still attached to the alternator but tabout half of the ringed or ridged section has gone. What would cause this, is it a common fault and does it mean my alternator needs replacing?... Read more

Check to see if the one way clutch has seized, I suspect it has and this is the cause for the failure. Regards Peter

Today the above message has appeared intermittantly along with the battery warning light. Am I right to assume it is likely to be the belt which is slipping because it has become a little slack? Read more

The 1.6 tdci has the epas, the 2.0 may not have. There are a few variations,so you need to check under bonnet. However, the fact that it is showing a message on the info panel tends to suggest it does have epas.hth

I have a 2007 Ford Focus with the Sony CD/Radio Head unit, and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about adding iPhone connectivity.

I'm not fussed if it involves a phone car-kit type setup, but the head unit has got a Aux/Line-In.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)... Read more

Just for music you will be better with an iphone dock to 3.5mm jack. The headphone socket isn't a line out channel, the iphone dock is.

I've just purchased a 2008 example of this car. Generally I am very pleased with it. It is in excellent condition (28k) and came with 12 months MOT dated the day I picked up the car, 22 March 2013. So I assumed all the basics were ok. On getting the car home however, I noticed the drivers side rear lamp cluster was misted. Believing it to be just condensation I took it off to clear it with a hairdryer but found it was filled with about 3 inches of water! The bulb holder was severely corroded and the bulb itself was seized in the socket due to this. I tried the lamps and neither of them worked, even the good one. I cleaned as much corrosion as I could and fitted 2 new bulbs but still no joy. I then assumed it may be the fuse but Peugeot don't list a fuse for the foglights (the fronts are ok by the way)

I have been in touch with the dealer and arranged to take it back next Tuesday for repair. However, as the car was awarded an MOT despite a glaring (or in this case non-glaring!) fault I am a little suspicious and I would be grateful for any information that I could muster so that I can be sure as much as possible that the job hasn't been botched.... Thanks. The 207 does have two rear foglights as my previous car was a 207 hatchback. I never had a problem with that with regard to the lights except the very one you mention! I had it from new and on the morning of its first MOT, on checking around the car for obvious problems, the brake lights weren't working! (Sod's law in action) But I have a good relationship with my local Peugeot dealer in Widnes (not sure if I can advertise!) and they took it in there and then and fitted a modified switch. I still made the MOT appointment! It passed.

I do wonder, in light of what you say about the complexity of the system, if the dealers workshop will have the necessary expertise to solve the problem....

I got asked the usual hypothetical question recently, namely, if I could have any car I wanted, what would I have? However, the proviso was that once I was given it, I had to run it as my only car for a few years. Now, with all the will in the world, exotics are out. I have a clutch of Grandchildren (car seats), infirm parents, a car pool of four big adults. I do a lot of DIY so trips to the tip and DIY sheds are regular occurrences. I am also a keen cyclist so the car needs to become a workshop some weekends so back seats have to come out.

This all boils down to the obvious car for me being an MPV (which I am buying next incidentally). However, given the fact that money is no object in this exercise, are there any expensive MPV's out there. It would seem a shame to have to settle for a 30 grand Ford Galaxy when under different circumstances you could choose a 200 grand Aston etc.... Read more

I know this is cheating - but I just wouldn't do it that way.

I'd have an expensive convertible - probably an Audi R8 Spider - but keep my Octavia vRS estate (or have a similarly-priced MPV if I needed one).

I have a Jeep Cherokee CRD 2.8 Auto on a 57 plate, which has an ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) warning light flashing on the dash board. I have tried to see if i have got a fault or not as i have had not much restriction in performance but i still have the fault.

To say the least Jeep UK have been NOT very helpful AT ALL! In fact because of the age of my Jeep they just want to fob me off and wash there hands and don't want to help. This my fifth Jeep and was until now a fan.... Read more

Get the diagnostic codes read - there are far too many possible "solutions" to start guessing at them.

I am currently advertising this car in Autotrader for £4950. I received a text offering me £4800 cash with a next day collection. All I had to do was to go to www.tradein-autotrader.com and enter the Purchase id they gave me. This I did, then they asked me to pay £80 to cover their collection, through Paypoint, then enter the paypoint receipt number and the car would be collected as agreed. This could just possibly be genuine, but I doubt it very much. On the principle that you don't ask people to pay them to buy something off you, it looks like a scam to me.
