I purchased my Golf new in Nov 2010. Stains have recently appeared on the VW press-in hub caps on each wheel. I understand the stains are called "white worm". The caps have been replaced free of charge under warranty by the VW dealer who said this is a regular problem. Is there anything I can do, perhaps in the way of polish, to prevent a recurrence? As this seems to be a well known regular fault why haven't VW changed the design or materials to preserve their quality image? Read more

Hi Guys,

Had this C-max around a month or so now, and it's been absolutely fine to drive. A few small issues sorted out by my local garage, but nothing out of the ordinary for a car of this age. ... Read more

the quickest and easiest option is to stick a bottle of Forte diesel treatment in the tank [maybe with only half a tank of fuel] and run that through. also look at cleaning out the egr, the amount of gunk that accumulates there is unbelievable. an egr blanking plate will cost £4 and well worth doing while you have it all apart.

i cleaned my egr, then ran the forte through it, then ordered and fitted the blanking plate the following week [only a five minute job]. ...

Saw a similar previous post when researching this so thought I'd join up and pose this one.

This morning, my wife rear ended an old lady at the junction coming off the motorway. The old lady was looking quite confused before she pulled away when the lights changed then suddenly, for no reason pulled an emergency stop right in the middle of a boxed area on the roundabout where the road splits into three separate routes, seemingly confused and panicked by the road layout. ... Hi, I've recently bought a sceond hand Zafira (the most Ive ever spent on a car!). Sometimes the engine doesn't start. When this happens, the engine symbol lights up, but doesn't flash. I've checked the manual and can find nothing. I have a feeling it might be related to the immobilisier?

Last time it happened, I took the key out and turned it around and then the engone started straight away! Don't know if this is just coincidence.... Read more

Thinking on,

The fault you two have won't bring up the error codes I've mentioned. I had, for some reason got into my head the problem I once had with a Vectra 1.8 with a misfire !!!!...

I need to update my sat nav. I believe what is in there is the original from 2005, so it is very out of date. Looking for the least expensive way to get an update from that last year or two. Thanks! Read more

Jesus_man,

Sorry to hear you're still having problems. Yes, that link appears to be the wrong one, I'm sure it's not what I originally meant to point you to....

Heres a poser then. work done over the last 2 years. New turbo fitted and all seems fine with it. Actuator arm moves freely no issues in the vacuum pipes. No splits in the pipe work running round to the inlet manifold. EGR valve is as clean as a whistle and functions ok although I have blanked the thing off. Inlet manifold is also cleaned and fitted new gaskets when replacing. Intercooler is clear and no splits. Dual mass flywheel replaced including new clutch etc. New set of injectors and recode including a software update. New exhaust system including cat. No fault codes, no flashing glow plug light and no error codes. The car runs sweet but lacks the sizzle it used to have when you ask it perform. I get a rumbling sound which I thought was exhaust when you squeeze the throttle and at the point where the turbo starts to kick in. Its not exhaust more like the engine is struggling to draw air through the pipe work instead of the turbo forcing air through. I am thinking map sensor may be duff. MAP sensor was taken out to clean and when replaced the engine became noisy the good old diesel clatter. The clatter is not bad but is always present, lack of air? MPG is reading 54.2 and pretty constant although put your foot down and it drops off quickly. Any ideas guys? Read more

One more thought. The hot wire in the MAF sensor runs at about 200C surely you should be able to feel the heat coming off if you hold it close to your skin? or smell the heat if you give it a sniff. At that temperature would it not glow a little? I am getting nothing from both old and new MAF

Unplugged the MAF and put a volt meter negative to the battery then staring from the pin on the left looking down on the plug I get 13.6V pin 1, 0.6V pin 2, 0.6V pin 3, 3.6V pin 4 right wrong who knows? Help driving me nuts here.

I would be grateful for any advice/opinion on this. I intend to buy a fiesta titanium ecoboost 1.0. a brand new one, 5dr via drive the deal is 12087 with solid paint, or plus 725 ish for special finish = 12812. my local garage has a 'used' fiesta, same with special finish, and rear parking sensors...but its a 62 plate, approx 2000 miles. they list it at £13700!!! i.e. new appears cheaper. i am pretty up on new prices etc but I wonder if anybody can tell me what would be a realistic price to expect them to sell this for as i am clueless? thanks a lot Read more

thanks for all the replies - its really helpful. I will just need to see how it feels and if its a disappointment get the wheels changed.

My wonderful lady friend has a beautiful Citroen with the correct suspension, which she dearly loves.

Occasionally - once every 10-12 months, it suddenly loses about a litre or so of its coolant, the first time a dodgy clip was replaced on the expansion tank, the last time it was unexplained, then a faulty sensor was replaced, it but has been perfect for a year, but now its just happened again.... If it is loosing sufficient coolant to make it overheat I would suspect that the head gasket is leaking, it will probably only loose appreciable ammounts when being pushed hard. The coolant will be expelled via the header tank filler cap or overflow, look for tell tale signs of dry antifreeze round the tank.

How fast do you reckon this lunatic must have been travelling? He's hit the hedge which must have slowed him a little but still got enough speed to launch up over the bonnet of the BMW, over the roof of the Audi? and embed his car in the TOP of the ground floor window !!! It's not even a main road, just a suburban housing estate.
