Recently sold a car and later that evening got a call to say it had a faulty catalytic converter! I was happy with price I got for car so agreed to pay half of repair cost which was around £300!

Few days letter get another phone call saying that its not cat it's now high and/or low pressure pumps which is £1000 I told them that they were at it and have since had a barrage of abusive calls from them and most recently a letter stating that they would like car repaired or a full refund of 1800 which was purchase price

However they also told me they fixed a few sensors themselfs then relished pump was faulty, I feel as they have been messing about with car I'm not wanting it back and may have possibly done damage to pump themselves!

What are your opinion on this? As not wanting to get taking to court or anymore hassle! Read more

I'm a bit surprised too.

It may help to make it clear what the Sale of Goods Act implies and what it doesn't....

Does anyone know if the sale of Goods Act ( i.e. the car being not fit for purpose) covers buying a second hand car from a dealer, when the next day after the sale, the battery had to be replaced because it was at the end of its 'life' and would not start the car following a frosty morning?

This happened to me some years ago. Bought car, drove home, next morning battery was flat.

I didn't even consider SOGA, I just phoned the selling garage, who came to collect the car (70 mile round trip) fitted a new battery and returned it later. Apologised for my inconvenience....

I know of a 1972 (41 years old) Porsche 911. Indy service apparently, and rare that he gets a large bill.

>> Also try specialist insurers/brokers

That's the one. I used to own a rubber-nosed MGB on which I had dropped the suspension back to the original ride height. When I insured that with a specialist and declared the suspension mods, they wrote it down as a safety modification and cut the premium.....:-)...

Hi,

Budget: 6-7K

Avoid: DPF problem related cars.

Consideration: Mondeo 2.0 / Honda Accord / Honda civic/ any other?

My preference may be the mondeo as I hear very good reviews, but DPF's
are making me think twice. Civcs sounds like the best car but it maybe
a bit too small for my needs.

I will need a car which will do approx 20,000 per year so a car that
will do anything above 45mpg would be great.

Any you would suggest from my choices, or any other not mentioned already? Read more

Low mileage users = petrol so no DPF

High mileage users = diesel but the DPF problem only affects low mileage diesels....

I have been looking for the perfect Honda Civic Type S (2.2 diesel). I found the 'perfect car' but unfortunately it was a 200 mile round trip away. However it was being sold from a Honda dealer so I trusted that the car would be as described.

According to the Honda Approved website the car ticked all my boxes: Sat Nav, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity being the three important factors.

When I arrived, I discovered that the car didn't include Sat Nav. The dealer acknowledged this and apologised. I specifically clarified with the dealer that the car does include Bluetooth and iPod connectivity and he confirmed that it did so I decided to purchase the car with the understanding that it came without Sat Nav, but with Bluetooth and iPod connectivity....

When I came to pick the car up a few days later, I discovered that it did not come with the above items (after being listed on the website, and even confirmed by the dealer).

I have raised the issue with The Honda franchise, and they offered to give me a refund. I declined as I need a car for work, and I can get back to the dealer anytime soon (200 mile round trip).

I suggested that they retro fit the items in question, but they declined this.

After some discussions, they have offered me £140. I am not happy with this as to get the car up to the standard as advertised would cost me a lot more.

What are your thoughts?

Many thanks. Read more

I think that car manufacturers have reputations, good or bad, undeserved ot otherwise. The dealers vary from Marvellous to Carp and everything in beween.and their reputations are totally unrelated to those of the manufacturers

Hi,

I'm In the lucky position to be having delivered a new Mercedes SL350 for a bargain personal contract price of £1800 down and £600 (includes VAT) a month for 2 years and 10k miles a year. Seems too good to be true but it isnt as the dealership hasn't sold enough cars to make their bonus this quarter.... Read more

Unfortunately top banding, before the face change, so £470 a year. Can't believe the merc is only £215 a year.

To be honest the BM is a lovely car it has always made me feel special when I have driven it but the offer on the Merc to me looks good. I hadn't considered the effect road tax would have on used prices and you are correct the 57 plates had more efficient water pumps which reduced CO2 to I think around £215 a year so mines double than and a bit more. I'd guess you could say if I wanted a 630i I'd buy a later one for not much more and save on road tax....
