I have owned from new June 2011 and have done 16000 miles. The gear change from 1st to 2nd in particular is very notchy more so when cold, to me it spoils an otherwise good vehicle. I have left the issue running for the 16000 miles giving it a chance to wear/bed in but there has ben no noticable difference. It went to the dealership recently for them to have a look, they agreed it was notchy and the remedy was to grease something, that was 2 weeks ago and the problem is still there, they have been advised.

Does any body out there have the same vehicle with or without the problem I am experiencing. Comments very welcome. Read more

I couldn't justify taxing my '73 DS23 for 12 months. Now I'll be able to take it out on those crisp winter days too!

I've been driving a Ford Fusion (1.4 petrol, 80bhp - basically identical innards to a mk6 fiesta) ever since I got my license 3 years ago. I'm now looking to upgrade to something better to be my daily driver, and I'd like some well-informed opinions on which used cars would fit my requirements. I'm looking for a car that is:

Look at some road tests: the MiTo's reviews are mostly less positive than the Fabia's, perhaps because people expect an Alfa to be fun to drive and this one apparently isn't. An automatic MiTo might be even less fun.

Also Skodas have a better reliability record than Alfas. Are there dealers for both makes within reach?...

Looking to pick some brains here. We live a mile up a farm road which we dont own with potholes which is hard on the cars that we have. Ideally I am looking for something with a raised suspension that can cope with this road plus I drive about 20 k miles per year for work. Looking for something cheap to buy and run. Currently have a citroen berlingo that just cant cope with the farm road. Read more

What about a Citroen C5 with the hydroneumatic suspension. You can raise it to the intermediate height setting for the track then return it to normal for foad use. Being a Citroen, can be bought for peanuts once a few years old and very comfortable.

just bought an iveco daily 35s14, just serviced it, but engine runs a bit rough. Most evident when idling, vibration in steering wheel/dash, quite annoying. No other probs,no engine lights on, no loss of power (though I'm new to van but it seems very powerful). Also steering wheel vibrates over around 60 - 70 mph ( this could be separate issue).

To be clear no other issues at all, and seeing as its just been serviced, I take it engine mounts will have been checked (it was a reputable garage). Any ideas please? could it be cracked engine block? Read more

lots of people, mechanics, vehicle breakdown companies, supermarkets, etc....

Hunk of misery? rock hard suspension! I dread every little bump, and like I said the vbibration, which apparantely is normal, though it wasn't present on my last daily, which had a smaller engine, 35s11.

Hi Guys

I was looking to get either a 3 series or 5 series (preferable) and wanted some advice, what are the average annual running costs for the above cars in terms of servicing and likely faults/breakdowns, I've had a reliable (but slightly boring!) car for 4 years which has never gone wrong and annual servicing is only £150 on it.... eBay classified ad. from a private individual. Very decent seller.

BTW, my car has zero options, just the basic car. but i thought it was a good deal, as most people were asking at least even 7k for basic cars with 100k plus on even 06 plate cars.

The first of the PD 2.0 TDi with 140 PS didn't have a DPF, instead they had an oil cooler mechanism which tended to destroy itself and the engine!

I have decided I need a new car for the UK I use to travel hundreds of miles a week but now I am retired I am lucky if I travel 50miles ,I once used a Toyota Prius Spirit for a month and it was very boring but well equiped.I have had look around on Autotrader and have narrowed my choice down to three types an Insight,Civic or a Prius the Prius must be a Spirit version because of the sat nav the other two its not important what model it is. All three cars have a good reputation for build quality and have an extended warranty on the batteries I am tempted by the Insight as I like the looks on the downside I cannot see anybody who makes a towbar for these cars all I want to fit is my towbar mounted bike rack.Has anbody any views on these cars or any another that will fit the bill. If you're looking for high mpg to save costs, this seems a pointless exercise. 50 miles per week is 2600 miles per year. That's around £500 fuel costs per year in a naturally aspirated petrol car doing 30mpg.

Taking 56 mpg from the RealMPG register for a 2010 onwards Prius, and you're talking just under £300. Add on another bit of cash for tax and you're talking about only £300-400 saving per year in terms of running costs....
