The new VW Golf like the Audi A3 sportback are now fitting these devices to free up space on the centre console (never heard such nonsense). However does anyone have experience of these, particularly the AutoHold function, where pressure is maintained in the brake sytem until such time as you gradually release the clutch and and employ suffficient gas, to pull away on steep-ish hills?

I wonder just how well these devices fare on 10% hills or steeper. Read more

If you don't like them don't buy one. Try a car fitted with them and make your own mind up. Plenty of cars still on the market with normal handbrakes.

Our car has a conventional handbrake but is fitted with hill start assist (HSA). It is a very usefull feature but for it to work the hill needs to be steeper than a certain gradient and you need to stop with a certain amount of braking, just rolling up to the car in front and then holding it on the foot brake results in no HSA which can be a surprise if you are expecting it.

Hi All,

I was after a bit of advice. I have a 56 plate focus Tdci which I am looking to trade in against a new car. It is pretty good nick, recently serviced and 10 months MoT remaining. There is a small amount of damage to the bodywork though, a supermarket car park ding and a bit of a scuff on one of the rear wheel arches. Had a quote to repair of £300. Was just wondering if it is worth doing on a car of this age, or just part ex as it is?... Read more

£300 does appear a bit high,

its worth getting it done IMO as dealers want clean cars they can throw on the forecourt....

Most of the UK reviews to date have been the pre-launch type - so not very comprehensive. The most comprehensive so far seems to be the Auto Express one - http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/mitsubishi/mirage

Diesel specialist will probably have seen the same problem a dozen times, if not they will go about proper diagnosis logically, it is what they specialise in.

Local taxi owner/drivers would be a good bet to ask where to take your car if you don't know of any reputable Diesel workshops in your area.

My husband is buying a brand new supermini size car (please no comments about not buying new he wants new and won't be shifted at all) we had a 2007 grande punto diesel (1.3 multijet) until 2010 and currently have a Mazda 2 (which we hate and want to get rid of).

We are looking round and round but can't seem to make a decision. We now have a short list (not so short!!)

Suzuki swift 1.2 sz4 (petrol)
Suzuki swift 1.3 ddis (diesel)
Vw polo bluemotion 1.2 (diesel)
Vw polo match (diesel)
Fiat punto easy 1.3 multijet (diesel)
Fiat punto lounge 1.3 multijet (diesel)
Skoda fabia greenline 1.2 (diesel)

Our budget is approx £12-13k which we can get the above for from online brokers (ie broadspeed or drive the deal), might try what local dealers can offer as well.

Has anyone got any of these cars? We drive approx 8-10k miles a year a mix or local and duel carriageway/motorway. My commute is 20 mins of motorway driving 5 days a week.

My husband really wants a diesel as he absolutely loved the punto diesel we had (and never should of got rid of).

Please help!! Read more

Hi, I'm trying to fit these to the same model car as well. Which wire did you connect to in the end?

Just got back from this establishment, 2nd year where I've got apparent advisories. Last year was a problem with steering rack joints, got them replaced and once removed the offending parts were not an issue and shouldn't have been an advisory, today was worse. 2 nails in tyres o/s/r and o/s/f, I took it to Kwik fit for repair and low n behold.....no nails! Just Mots just targeting me for their VOSA stats? Read more

I've used an MOT station for over 20 years and they just do MOTs. No repairs. They pride themselves on the fact. If your car fails, you know it isn't a ghost problem they will sell you a repair.

Some local councils do MoT testing at reasonable charges for customers with any connection to the local authority. They are usually very competent places used to dealing with the authority vehicle fleet.
