As soon as it becomes clear that I have done the last mow of autumn, I empty the mower of petrol and add it to my car .... Haven't had a fuel-related problem so far. In fact it hasn't been serviced for a couple of years as it may come back worse than it went in. All I have done this winter is to clean the plug.

Hi, my daughters 306 has got a very heavy clutch pedal, i've taken the cable off and oiled it and checked the pedal which seems to be ok.There's no clutch slip and everything is operating as it should. Does anyone know what could could make it so heavy. When in traffic it actually makes your leg ache. Thanks for any help in advance. Read more

the clutch cable runs over a hot part of the exhaust and the grease solidifies. Oiling the cable from the ends may not resolve the problem. I'd go for a brand new cable before looking at anything else.

HJ loves the Honda Jazz. Safest at that price are small Asian ones with petrol engines, so I keep reading.

I've an old Kia Pride that I've had for the last six years and now I want to sell it. I know there's at least a couple of people here in the used car game and I thought I'd pick their brains.

It's just got a new MOT and I put six months tax on it so it can be legally driven on the roads if anyone wants a test drive (I thought that would also make it more attractive).... Read more

Funny that - I sold a Pug 205 to a young lad from Sheffield last month. Is there some scheme going on? And how does a private buyer just 'come and drive away' without arranging insurance first?

Actually to give the lad his due ,he'd organised an insurance quote before he viewed the car .He then rang his insurance company on my phone to put the insurance in place before driving away .

Driving without insurance is one of my pet hates ,If he had wanted to drive away without insurance I'm not sure that I would stop him ,however I certainly wouldn't encourage it .

I have recently been involved in a car crash where a third party hit the passenger side of my BMW M3 whilst coming out of a side road which has a give way sign and double hatched markings without stopping at the junction. Whilst he admitted liability on the scene, the company he works for have since then refused to accept liability.

Admiral, whom with I have a full comprehensive policy, put me in touch with Albany assistance to arrange a 'like for like' vehicle. I contacted Albany and was told that without an acceptance of liability they could not arrange a vehicle... fair enough. 2 days later I recieved a phonecall from Albany who informed me that they are now willing to organise a replacement vehicle on the basis that the third party have admitted their vehicle was coming out of a 'give way' side road and they are making an exception based on the fact that they feel this claim is only going one way (my way). He told me my vehicle comes under the 'prestige' car group and thats its unusual for them to provide such a replacement vehicle but that he would be willing to get something of a similar size albeit without the power/specifiaction of my M3.... Unless you can get confirmation in writing that you will never be liable for any costs in relation to the replacement car avoid at all costs.

Tell them you will happily take a Fiesta and you don't expect the charge to be more than £30 a day.

You are then showing you are mitigating your losses. If they won't play ball hire yourself and claim from the third party.
