Mazda dealers will have a set of master keys that will remove the locking nuts with no damage.

It is normally cheaper to buy a new set of nuts with a key than to simply buy a key....

Dear Sir,

Each year I have a full service and MOT on the car. This was done two weeks ago. During the service routine the engineer gets me to buy a winter seasonal service as well.... Read more

What's the point of 'testing' a battery if everything is working properly? It's when you get a fault which may or may not be caused by a dodgy battery that you start testing things!

I see in the news that the M25 Dartford bridge has been closed most of today with all traffic using the tunnels. The delays are reported to be 'up to 3 hours'.

I don't know why, and really the reason is not the issue, the sheer utter frustration that will have been suffered by the motorists caused by this delay shows the need for a better solution. It must have been quicker to drive around the M25 rather than wait - or through Central London, especially on a Sunday. I was planning to use this route today, but decided to put the trip off until next weekend, just in case the forecast snow became a problem later in the evening. (to return at 22.01, so to avoid the toll charge).... Read more

I think though, that train drivers get more distress from such events than motorists.

Coming from a small community that was close by a railway depot in my youth I knew quite a few train drivers and guards and such incidents had varying effects on them. One driver I knew had got into double figures and was outwardly unaffected, a couple never got back on the footplate again after having had their first.......

Innerlondon made the following observation in a topic named "What's changed?" which was started by jamie745:

Compared to the early 90s and now - many fewer men in the office talking about cars all the time eg what they drive, what they want to drive, what they've seen recently, what's cool....A sense that for a younger generation they've replaced wanting to own a car/get a better car/talk about cars with other things eg smartphones, internet, etc.... Can anyone tell me what could be wrong and how expensive it could be to fix. Yesterday I left the lights on and when I returned to car it wouldn't start. Called the RaC who after a very long wait sent a Sub contractor out. He parked his van directly behind the car and I told him I had left lights on and now car battery was dead. He got a starter battery pack asked me to try starting car which it did first time. He then left quickly, so I started to put the car into gear so I could reverse out of parking space. Thats when I realised I couldn't select a gear, all lights were lit, the windscreen wipers wouldn't work, the windows wouldn't go down, and there were 4 red dots showing that were never there before on the rear parking sensors. After another call to rac and waiting another 2 hours a second sub contractor arrived and said he had no idea what had happened except power surge had damaged the wiring. In the end they called for a recovery truck and just delivered the car back home 7 hours after my call for help. So this morning I called again asking for a proper RAC patrol man to attend. He checked it out and also said he thinks the first chap had messed up the jumpstart and had either fried the ECU controlling auxillary lights etc or shorted out some wiring. Now I was told that I would need to fight it out with customer care which doesn't work weekends! So I am left carless facing large repair bills. Any ideas please?

These cars are very prone to electrical issues after jump start or power surges. It is possible that the jump pack was incorrectly connected ,but i would firstly disconnect the battery for 10 mins and re-test.If this proves unsucessful.i would check the fuses in the engine bay fuse box.It is possible that one of the main power fuses has blown.hth

Isn't the best way to make a small fortune to start off with a big fortune and invest in classic cars?

If you count up the garage space required, all the fixed costs, and the fact that you need another car, I think you'd do well to break even, even if the car doesn't develop an expensive option. Classics are best left to nerdy enthusiasts, rather than the the next facebook IPO speculators looking to make cash, no? Read more

She left me and has gone into the bedroom to take a phonecall ,as far as I know she has been happily married for 20 years she still with me at least.

But it shows your imaturity when you come out with statements like that.

My wifes car has an oil leak somewhere around the top right of the engine. It's rather dirty (there's no where near me that does steam cleaning - grr!), but I thought it was coming from the cam cover so I had that off and reassembled with Hermitite Red. No joy, still got the leak.

Looking more closely, I now think it's leaking from the cam carrier to head joint. I tried torque checking all the carrier bolts (in the correct order) and one or two turned a fraction but nothing more.... Read more

I think you will find the HG has gone ,I have been playing with BMWs for many many years and what you describe is very common. The lack of mayo is meaningless I have seen cars engines with loads of mayo but the head has not gone and vice a versa. You could look at the water pump but they normally give no problems they are mechanically driven on the left hand side of the block looking towards the windscreen. You could also check the thermostat but water loss no apparent leaks the water has to be going somewhere and in your case its going up the exhaust. The temp gauge is measuring the air temp when slowed down due to the lack of water in the system.

There is one more check you can carry out it is possible that for some reason the water has gone low and allowed air into the system you need to bleed the system.Run the engine without the water filler cap when the stat opens the air will come out it may take some time for all the air to come out.

I am considering using this method of buying a Ford Kuga. You rent the car for 10 days and if you decide to buy then they deduct the rental cost. Seems like a good way of getting a vehicle checked out before buying, at what seems a resonable price.

Happy Blue!

Having bought two cars after renting them (although it was pure fluke that I was given them by the rental company), I wholehearted like the idea of this type of long test drive in real world conditions.

It would be even better if they gave you your rental money back if you bought a new model from the manufacturer rather than from Hertz. (Don't Ford own Hertz?)
