Hi my 2008 231 rx8 is shuddering threw the gears more on lower revs!
Any ideas! I'm thinking new plugs but I am new to these cars! Read more
Moved to Technical. I do hope you mean 'through' rather than 'threw' which conjures up a much more alarming image....
Hey all, first time here, but I'm been reading a lot from this site about this problem.
I have a 2000 2.0 vectra diesel Di. I came home after a few days away and the car didn't start at all. They were cold days so I suspected the glowplugs. Tested these and they were all fine and there is power being supplied to them.
After reading on this site people suggested an air leak. Also as it was parked on a slight uphill I suspected this was the case too. So I changed the leak off pipes today and tried to start it after the job was complete and still no go. Tried tuning it over for about 5 minutes, jumping it from another car. Then I towed the car so it was facing downhill, tried turning it over for another. 2-3 minutes and it started.
The issue now is that I'm not sure if it is 100% fixed. I don't want to be away from home and find it won't start. When I Changed the leak off pipes, there was diesel in the lines, but also oil. I read somewhere that oil in the pipes suggests the injector seals, but I would like to get some more opinions before I attempt that job.
Hope I've given enough info, sorry if it is too long. I'd appreciate any help. Read more
IIRC the injectors sit under the camshaft which has to be removed. Not too easy.hth
Im a first time poster in need of some advice please.Im looking for a smallish second car and have kind of narrowed it down to the above.Ive got a small budget of around £2,500 and autotrader has plenty to choose from and i came accross a lovely T reg Golf TDI 110 77,000 on the clock and looks in great nick...i thought that would be the one, until i read the honest John review and "the bad points" bit!!!
Now im totally confused and it seems the Audi is a safer bet if not more expensive....has anyone out there got any advice they could offer me?... Read more

Thanks all for the advice ,replacing the brake switch did the trick ,£42 including labour plus vat .Apparently it's a common fault on vw skoda .
Still not sure why the glow plug light and steering light display should come on though ,any thoughts ?
After about 14 years out of the UK I'm returning for 4-5 months and I need to get a car for that time.
Has to be a estate and since I'm going to be doing 2k per month of motorway miles it needs fuel efficient and reliable
I have looked at the long term car hire and it's about 450-800 UKP per month plus the excess
Anyone offer any other options and what type of car should I be looking at, If I decide to buy a cheap S/H car
(bear in mind that it needs to be reliable ;-)) Read more
Buy a second hand petrol Ford Focus estate. Cheap, reliable, and someone will want it off you when you leave.
Hyundai and Kia in the states have admitted that their mpg statements are flawed and have offered cash in recompense for false statemets to all owners of a stack of cars. I have an I30CRDi and the mpg is a heck of a lot less than promised. The full to full mpg over about 6000 is also a lot less than the trip readings suggest. Are Hyundai and Kia offering the same refund to british owners as they are in the states. The American mpg appears to have come from Korean figures just as the british ones do Read more
The American mpg appears to have come from Korean figures just as the british ones do
No they don't. The mpg figures quoted in the UK by ALL manufacturers are the EU official figures that are obtained under EU Directive 80/1268/EEC and has nothing to do with Korean tests....
I have a 1.6 skoda hatchback, there appears to be alot of noise even when just driving urban, no motorway driving yet. My visual examination of the car has resulted in nothing out of the ordinary, any suggestions? Read more
Hi Cyd{P}
Sorry for lack of detail re noise. It's difficult to describe. Basically it is a hollow sound as if the noise is circulating within the car. It's like a whirring sound as if in a wind tunnel. I have inspected the window seals and ensured all doors and boot firmly closed. I have noticed that altough all 4 tyres are same size etc, they are different makes, not sure if this is significant. Have had several passengers in the car and no ideas from them re noise.

Firstly this is the non-self igniting model !

My pleasure.
Worth remembering when purchasing that Bosch, Siemens and Electrolux/AEG all have full parts availability online with exploded diagrams like that....

Around that time lead solder was banned and manufacturers didn't know how to manufactuire pcbs with any longevity with the enforced tech.
Check out youtube, if anything I'd think car parts were even worse affected than computer parts....
