I was looking to get either a 3 series or 5 series (preferable) and wanted some advice, what are the average annual running costs for the above cars in terms of servicing and likely faults/breakdowns, I've had a reliable (but slightly boring!) car for 4 years which has never gone wrong and annual servicing is only £150 on it.... May I ask when the Audi A4's started the DPF system on there cars? was it 2005 onwards or before? I understand the eralier 1.9 TDI didnt have them?,... Read more
The first of the PD 2.0 TDi with 140 PS didn't have a DPF, instead they had an oil cooler mechanism which tended to destroy itself and the engine!
I have decided I need a new car for the UK I use to travel hundreds of miles a week but now I am retired I am lucky if I travel 50miles ,I once used a Toyota Prius Spirit for a month and it was very boring but well equiped.I have had look around on Autotrader and have narrowed my choice down to three types an Insight,Civic or a Prius the Prius must be a Spirit version because of the sat nav the other two its not important what model it is. All three cars have a good reputation for build quality and have an extended warranty on the batteries I am tempted by the Insight as I like the looks on the downside I cannot see anybody who makes a towbar for these cars all I want to fit is my towbar mounted bike rack.Has anbody any views on these cars or any another that will fit the bill. If you're looking for high mpg to save costs, this seems a pointless exercise. 50 miles per week is 2600 miles per year. That's around £500 fuel costs per year in a naturally aspirated petrol car doing 30mpg.
Taking 56 mpg from the RealMPG register for a 2010 onwards Prius, and you're talking just under £300. Add on another bit of cash for tax and you're talking about only £300-400 saving per year in terms of running costs....

I am needing critical advice,
First of all here's the story short and brief
I was involved in an accident on a dual carriage way which hmcaused me to crash in to the barrier and also collide with another car which turned this in the opposite direction.
I'm going to give you the actual full description of the charge to see if anyone can read this and tell me what I can do ? And also am I going to be banned ?
"On 09th February 2013 on a road or other public place namely a9 eastbound near Glasgow you ***** did drive a mechanically propelled vehicle namely motor car registered number ******* dangerously and drive at excessive speeds for the weather conditions and the condition of your vehicle, overtake another vehicle, collide with motor vehicle *******, being driven by *******, collude with his vehicle causing it to spin across the road, onto the hard shoulder and a grass verge facing eastbound, lose control of your vehicle and collide with the central reservation solid wall coming to a halt on the hard shoulder, causing damage to said vehicles and injury to yourself; CONTRARY to the road traffic act 1988, section 2 as amended"

To me it seems all baloney....but its Sco'land.
Does the citation give a Court date and place or does it just mention the consideration of a prosecution i.e. Notice of Intended Prosecution???
If Court date and place mentioned then this could be a summons (unlikely because of the description of the charge).
In either case the paperwork should contain information as to the office that has sent it and therefore check-able.
Normally a NOIP or summons would only mention that a motor vehicle was being driven dangerously at a location on a time and date. A description of the circumstances being outlined in the accompanying summons Statement of Facts.
Do enlarge, like others I am intrigued.

What size tyres and at what pressure are on the car. It is rare to hear complaints about the ride in this car.

Our 60 reg freelander has drained its battery 3 times in the last 4 months. It is used regularly but not every day for a mixture of driving.
We think the radio might be slow draining the battery as some times there are issues with the radio if you leave it on when turning off ignition.... Read more

So pulled off junction 11 of the M4 to eat at the Madejski hotel on spec since I was passing, as I often have in the past. Had an irritable child in the back. No signs to warn me to keep away.
Quickly got caught up in about 4 hours of traffic jams. Cars forced down routes with no choice whatsoever. Many roads shut. Many roads shut at the end after no warning at the other end where you entered. No directions for any sensible route back out of the chaos.... Read more
I find the same problem if I dare venture out into the rush hour - all those people trying to get to work and impeding my progress - shouldn't be allowed especially as all trips are ;leisure trips now I'm retired.
There are several towns and cities where you'll get the same sort of unannounced congestion every time they remodel a junction - and then find it impedes traffic flow but takes months or years to find a solution.
when i operate my rear wiper water jets it comes out on front windscreen instead of back, i recently got a new rear windcreen fitted due to some a***hole smashing it, would this be connected to the problem. Read more
checked for blockages and cannot find any, water is now coming out rear wiper but also still coming out front when i operate rear wiper.
