Generally speaking, wiper motors have two power feeds. A permanent feed via the parking switch, which is cut when the wiper is in the parked position and a direct feed from the main switch that controls it on the dash / stalk.
Sounds to me like you may have purchased a wiper motor when it's actually the switch at fault. Check that you have a live feed for the park mechanism when the thing's switched off and that the switch feed goes live when you switch it on.
