The house that crashed into him (!) is on the outside of a sharp left hand bend at the end of a long straight road, it looks like he didin't attempt to take the corner, just went straight on through the hedge,over the cars and into the house. ISTR that the early ones were a shade light on horsepower in the computer department and had a habit of dropping into safe mode when overloaded, which happened all too easily.

So, long straight + bend and going too fast. Under braking, ABS, ESP etc all cut in, the computer safes itself and the car instantaneously converts itself from a sure-footed road leech into a shopping trolley.

At that point, in icy conditions, you're a passenger.

It's a 2003 so the early handling glitches should have been ironed out.

Sky News has a better picture showing the damage to the BMW more clearly which suggests to me it came through the hedge.

Jamie is correct the Audi went through a hedge, which along with the BMW, contributed the altitude.
