How fast do you reckon this lunatic must have been travelling? He's hit the hedge which must have slowed him a little but still got enough speed to launch up over the bonnet of the BMW, over the roof of the Audi? and embed his car in the TOP of the ground floor window !!! It's not even a main road, just a suburban housing estate.

The house that crashed into him (!) is on the outside of a sharp left hand bend at the end of a long straight road, it looks like he didin't attempt to take the corner, just went straight on through the hedge, over the cars and into the house. The word "Slow" is painted on the road about 100 metres before the corner. There are no other road signs visible on the approach.

If you look carefully at the small photo there are no skid marks on the road and over the pavement, which indicates either the probability of an icy road, or a driver that was driving too fast and not paying any attention (texting, phoning, or changing a cd etc)

Speed? If he didn't brake, 40- 45 mph would do it.

That will be because of ABS

A car braking hard enough to trigger the ABS will (usually) still leave skid marks, in nice neat blocks as the system kicks in and out.

If you look at Google earth it's a gentle bend at the end of a short straight in a housing estate.

The "accident" happened at the junction of Cotmer Road and Long Meadow Walk which as I said is at the end of the half kilometre long straight of Cotmer Road unimpeded by any speed humps or chicanes - must be about the only stretch of suburban road left in the UK without them.

Even taking into account ABS there would be some tyre track marking on the road - unless it was icy.....!

Hmm, I wonder how early that TT is?

ISTR that the early ones were a shade light on horsepower in the computer department and had a habit of dropping into safe mode when overloaded, which happened all too easily.

So, long straight + bend and going too fast. Under braking, ABS, ESP etc all cut in, the computer safes itself and the car instantaneously converts itself from a sure-footed road leech into a shopping trolley.

At that point, in icy conditions, you're a passenger.

It's a 2003 so the early handling glitches should have been ironed out.

To get that high neede some assistance and just maybe the hedge acted like a ramp and the car leapt in the air and hit the house.

Well he clearly didn't enter the premesis via the driveway did he.

Sky News has a better picture showing the damage to the BMW more clearly which suggests to me it came through the hedge.

Good timing, his tax runs out at the end of the month, he'd be gutted if he'd just taxed it.

Jamie is correct the Audi went through a hedge, which along with the BMW, contributed the altitude.

R13 DTT - certainly was unlucky for him.
