March 2013
I have a 2007 Ford Focus with the Sony CD/Radio Head unit, and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about adding iPhone connectivity.
I'm not fussed if it involves a phone car-kit type setup, but the head unit has got a Aux/Line-In.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)... Read more
I've just purchased a 2008 example of this car. Generally I am very pleased with it. It is in excellent condition (28k) and came with 12 months MOT dated the day I picked up the car, 22 March 2013. So I assumed all the basics were ok. On getting the car home however, I noticed the drivers side rear lamp cluster was misted. Believing it to be just condensation I took it off to clear it with a hairdryer but found it was filled with about 3 inches of water! The bulb holder was severely corroded and the bulb itself was seized in the socket due to this. I tried the lamps and neither of them worked, even the good one. I cleaned as much corrosion as I could and fitted 2 new bulbs but still no joy. I then assumed it may be the fuse but Peugeot don't list a fuse for the foglights (the fronts are ok by the way)
I have been in touch with the dealer and arranged to take it back next Tuesday for repair. However, as the car was awarded an MOT despite a glaring (or in this case non-glaring!) fault I am a little suspicious and I would be grateful for any information that I could muster so that I can be sure as much as possible that the job hasn't been botched.... Thanks. The 207 does have two rear foglights as my previous car was a 207 hatchback. I never had a problem with that with regard to the lights except the very one you mention! I had it from new and on the morning of its first MOT, on checking around the car for obvious problems, the brake lights weren't working! (Sod's law in action) But I have a good relationship with my local Peugeot dealer in Widnes (not sure if I can advertise!) and they took it in there and then and fitted a modified switch. I still made the MOT appointment! It passed.
I do wonder, in light of what you say about the complexity of the system, if the dealers workshop will have the necessary expertise to solve the problem....
I got asked the usual hypothetical question recently, namely, if I could have any car I wanted, what would I have? However, the proviso was that once I was given it, I had to run it as my only car for a few years. Now, with all the will in the world, exotics are out. I have a clutch of Grandchildren (car seats), infirm parents, a car pool of four big adults. I do a lot of DIY so trips to the tip and DIY sheds are regular occurrences. I am also a keen cyclist so the car needs to become a workshop some weekends so back seats have to come out.
This all boils down to the obvious car for me being an MPV (which I am buying next incidentally). However, given the fact that money is no object in this exercise, are there any expensive MPV's out there. It would seem a shame to have to settle for a 30 grand Ford Galaxy when under different circumstances you could choose a 200 grand Aston etc.... Read more
I know this is cheating - but I just wouldn't do it that way.
I'd have an expensive convertible - probably an Audi R8 Spider - but keep my Octavia vRS estate (or have a similarly-priced MPV if I needed one).
I have a Jeep Cherokee CRD 2.8 Auto on a 57 plate, which has an ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) warning light flashing on the dash board. I have tried to see if i have got a fault or not as i have had not much restriction in performance but i still have the fault.
To say the least Jeep UK have been NOT very helpful AT ALL! In fact because of the age of my Jeep they just want to fob me off and wash there hands and don't want to help. This my fifth Jeep and was until now a fan.... Read more
Get the diagnostic codes read - there are far too many possible "solutions" to start guessing at them.
I am currently advertising this car in Autotrader for £4950. I received a text offering me £4800 cash with a next day collection. All I had to do was to go to www.tradein-autotrader.com and enter the Purchase id they gave me. This I did, then they asked me to pay £80 to cover their collection, through Paypoint, then enter the paypoint receipt number and the car would be collected as agreed. This could just possibly be genuine, but I doubt it very much. On the principle that you don't ask people to pay them to buy something off you, it looks like a scam to me. Anyone had a similar experience? Read more
Anyone who asks for money is a thief.

Ive noticed some very obvious rust in and around all the wheel arches. I've only recently seen it so i'm assuming that its due to this winter.
Ive seen a bodyshop and they said that if they 'remove' the rust it will reapear in a few months and the only way to do it would be to cut the affected metal out and replace it. This would cost too much though.... Read more
Disappointing to get rust on a Mazda after just 9 years!
It's likely the rust has spread from the inside of the wheel arch so I suggest you take off the wheels, remove the wheelarch liners (plastic things) and get inside the wheelarch and clean out any accumulated crud (this retains moisture and salt next to the panel and causes the corrosion), dry the affected areas then rub down the rust to remove any loose corrosion, clean off the loose rust/dust and then treat with a rust convertor and, when dry, overspray with a cavity wax like Waxoyl. Allow this to dry thoroughly (can take days in low temperatures) and only then refit the wheelarch liners....
Dear Technical team. I have had a major issue with some fuel I purchased just before Christmas. The end result was my Vito van was in the garage for a month ( only work vehicle my business has) and a bill for £3660. Initially the garage thought it was a problem with the injectors but after replacing them and having the same problem they had to go back step by step and discovered the entire tank was full of contaminated fuel. They have returned all the fuel along with a large jar which is full of a strange cocktail. The top third being diesel the next a silty dark grey (with bits floating inside) then the bottom third a light grey sludge like liquid. I have complained to the large company that I filled up at, explaining I bought a full tank from them one day broke down 40miles later and have been dismissed, I am in discussions with trading standards / citizen's advice ~ with little joy. I believe I have purchased the last 60litres of the tank at the service station and this is the route of my problem. PLEASE give me some advice I'm not after any compensation I simply want my garage bill costs back.
Yours very hopefully GKF

To be honest it could be either, if your van ever sits around with a low tank , and you only need to pick up some fuel with above average bacteria in it and away you go !
If you know where you filled up and you suspect you got contaminated fuel then you need a sample and a visit to them but whether they would admit to contaminated fuel is another thing altogether
Hardly any car being sold achieves these figures. At best they are a comparison between different models. Read more
Gentlemen! Just wondering what you do when you encounter a squeegee man at a corner. I'm starting to get really annoyed with them, to the point where if I see one up ahead I'll turn off the street I'm on just to not have to deal with them. Any creative solutions? Read more
I make eye contact, wave my hand in a negative gesture and shake my head. They move on.
I've long been a critic of motoring magazines printing beautifully crafted computer graphics images of forthcoming new models, based on informed guesswork. The CG images are often presented with equal validity to real photos and are sometimes almost indestinguishable from professional shots of real cars,
But the guesswork is often wrong - but, hey, customers will have forgotten about that by the time the car comes along! ... Read more
Just for music you will be better with an iphone dock to 3.5mm jack. The headphone socket isn't a line out channel, the iphone dock is.
