As you may have seen elsewhere on the site, the ASA have decided carmakers will now have to make clear in their advertising material that the stated mpg figures may not be obtainable in the real world.

The carmakers only put their cars through these tests because they have to. It's not their fault the test is bonkers. Read more

Judging by the name of the car it might be an ironic statement.

If you pay for a part to be fitted,it has a one year warranty-however,parts fitted under warranty-free-are only guaranteed within the warranty period.ie.if a part was replaced after 2 years & 364 days,it would be covered for one day!

What colour is the smoke when starting from cold ?

If it's white or bluey white and the engine splutters for a minute or so and then settles suspect the EGR valve.

Take the car to a Ford garage and ask them to run live diagnostics on the engine, they should find something.

And if you go for an S don't whatever you do own it out of warranty.

has anyone any information about dpf on volvoes?what trouble can I exspect Read more

craig-pd130

Depends what engine you have in the C30, and mostly on the type of journeys the car does.

However, I've had two DPF-equipped cars (a Mondeo and now a Volvo V60) for a total of 5 years and nearly 60,000 miles, and had zero DPF problems. This is despite my daily commute being 3.5 miles to work, and 3.5 miles back home. Some people would have you believe that this kind of use would block up the DPF in a week, or cause it to melt down like Three Mile Island....

What car is it?

All the report says is that a plate which has been applied at some point to the car has been written off and maybe "exported" and maybe "re-imported" to another part of the UK....

Have just noticed that when locking my A4 Avant I no longer get the indicator flash to confirm, also for quite a while now the lock on the fuel filler hasn't worked. everything else seems to work as it should.

Are the two connected? ie the ECU is recognising that the flap isn't locked therefore no confirmation flash?... Read more

Robert in Portugal

Hello. I bought this elderly 7seater in February 2013, from a large professional car dealer here in Portugal. I was told that there was a problem with the cylinder head 'joint' (?gasket) which they would fix, and also that they would service the car thoroughly before it was handed over to me. They gave me a written 1 year guarantee on the engine and gear-box. The car showed 220,000 km on the clock, though a computer check discovered later that the 'Belt' had been changed by Ford agents at 199,000 km in 2009 (!), and also previously at 100,000 km.

On delivery the car and engine were certainly very clean and well polished inside and out, and it drove well for me for 250 km. But then, when going up a long motorway incline with a full load, the temperature gauge was suddenly seen to be on the extreme RED sector and the Temperature Warning Light was on. I pulled off the road and called out the rescue service Once the engine was cool the technician said that either the coolant was not circulating, or that it was leaking: a problem in the 'plumbing'. Since then, the car has not been driven except to confirm that it is overheating, and it has been trucked back to the vendor, for attention under the Guarantee. Do you think that this problem could be related to the "gasket" problem which I mentioned ? What would be the right sort of repairs that might be required ? Thanks. Read more

water pump impeller failure is the normal cause of failure on these engines , sometimes the impeller just becomes loose ! so when the pump is removed it looks ok , but also bearing in mind the high mileage blocked radiators must not be dismissed.

I have had to change radiators in 5 year old cars where they have lost their cooling efficencey. Normal sign is rapid rise in temp when going over a certain speed or uphill or towing.
