Been trying for some weeks to improve the brakes on my daughters 2004 Ka. The pedal travel seems excessive and the braking efficiency seems poor. Took many attempts to remove the front bleed nipples. Been soaking in penetrating fluid every weekend with no success. Finally resorted to heating the caliper with a gas torch (not hot enough to damage anything except my thumb !) and applying freezer spray down a tube over the nipple. Eventually with mole grips I got them out. Replaced nipples and bled through a whole bottle of fluid. I hoped this would solve the problem but little air came out and brakes were the same. Bled rear at same time.
Stripped rear drums (by removing 4 bolts in back plate and not disturbing bearings) brand new shoes and cylinders were there. One adjuster was incorrectly fitted. Instead of its teeth engaging with its partner, it was sitting behind it so was doing nothing. That's thanks to Halfords who did brakes and MOT the week before we bought it. Set the 2 together and moved it on a couple of clicks so drum would just fit. Other side was ok but did same with adjuster. Pumped brakes but heard no clicks. Adjusted handbrake but pedal still same.... Read more
I note that Asda has a synthetic 5w/30 oil for just £20.
looking to do 6 monthly oil changes on my wife's 2004 73k A3 1.6, to try and keep it going for as long as possible.... Read more
Asda don't make oil, it will probably be made by Comma or Carlube who tend to make oil to be rebranded as the buyer dictates, Comma make all the Halfords oils.
There will be absolutely nothing worng with the Asda oil the OP mentioned, in fact its the exaxt spec that is needed for our Kia Ceed CRDi with DPF, at £20 I might get some....
Hi,
I'm looking for a new car, and like the idea of changing from a MPV to a Crossover. However the key feature I want is three separate rear seats as in my Citroen C4 Picasso, rather than two seats and a middle bench that most cars have. (I'm not talking separately moving or flipping, a 66/33 split is fine).... Read more
"I was one of three children and think the five seater is the best choice. When travelling with a full family there is usually luggage involved, and the seven seater doesn't have a useful boot."
It does if you get a 7-seater whose rearmost seats fold down flat into the floor, as most modern ones do, I think. And 3 children don't always want to sit in a row: as Happy Blue says, it's nice to have the option to change around....
Hi guys,
My Sister in law owns a 206 with automatic wipers and automatic lights. As of last week the front wipers decided not to work full stop. First thing i changed were the fuses with no joy. After doing a bit of research i decided the next thing to change would be the Comms 2000 unit as these are quite common. I changed theis last night, still no joy, front wipers and washer pump dont work yet the rear ones do? After taking out the indicator fuse the front wipers started working but on one speed only. As soon as you put the fuse back in, nothing again?... Read more
Ahh...only problem with that is she's "misplaced" her original key, so now using the spare with no buttons on to lock or unlock :-S That could be a problem then.

Ok, So I got the too common EAC fail, cleaned up all the connectors and it hasn't came back since.
I have since replaced the throttle pedal as it was showing movements on a live diagnostics when no one was touching it and the car was idling way too high.... Read more
Anyone? Also, I went to clean the MAF to find it doesn't have a MAF, it has a MAP which apparently can not be cleaned. Is that correct?
Also, I went to get the P/N off the clutch switch to order a replacement, and although I have a error in my ECU relating to the clutch switch, it doesn't seem to have one of them either.???...
Dented my front passenger door today, approx cost for repair £200. Cheaper to buy a secondhand replacement. Can anyone advise how easy it is to remove and replace?
Many thanks Read more
Hi again all, door is now put on the car. Unfortunately it drops slightly and when closing the top catches the rear door. I'm going to have a go at the weekend to see if there's any movement in the bolts to raise it. The other thing is the window mechanisim doesn't work (I guess the cable's snapped) so I've removed the one from the old door. Anyone got ideas whether I can just plonk in situ on the replacement door and does the round cable winder need to be in a particular position??

I'm now on my 4th diesel car - this time a C Class W203 CDI220 (2006) with 81000miles on the clock. Previous diesel cars I owned were all VAG cars (VE and PD engines), so this engine is all new to me in terms of it being common rail and Euro 4.
I'm just wondering what best practice/good habits are for a modern diesel? I'll be changing the oil every 8000miles (MB interval is around 16000 - TOO long to my mind!), and using a Bosch filter and low ash oil (to spec mb229.5). Even though the car does not have a DPF fitted, I've been told that the low ash oil is the best to use/more refined (correct ?). I'm also planning to use Comma oil Syner Z, as it meets the MB spec and I can get it cheaper, and am told it's Esso rebranded!... Read more
No DMF fitted : -)

Hello, just a quickie- I want to report a UK Toyota dealership and basically get Toyota to sort themselves out, failing that I would like to take it higher- can you advise me on how best to go about this please?
Here are the facts- My wife bought a Toyota Yaris, they told her it was a 1.4 when I viewed it they said it was a 1.0, when I pressed them they admitted they got it wrong?? My wife really wanted the car all the same regardless of engine size, so we deposited it and went to pick it up, when we arrived I asked to see the service history and log books which they had fobbed my wife off with, they said the (try not to laugh) office was closed, but they would send them out- I asked if they had seen them and the salesamn said my wife had, she said she had never seen them so they were clearly lying! The back pedalling continued and so I asked them to sign a letter saying the doumentation would be sent out Monday, this was agreed.... Read more
I think we need to be told a lot more if we are going to be able to help on this one - if you want our help, that is.
You say, "...I've spent alot on a car that has had multiple issues to be resolved within the first few months!"...
Hi,
Our 5 and a half year old Peugot 307 SW is virtually a " write off"! They could replace Turbo Charger which has disintegrated but would not be able to guarantee it as there would be "bits" floating in the oil circulating round the engine which are impossible to remove.
We are in a state of shock. Apparently no claim on Insurance as not caused by accident; just bad luck. Where do we go from here?

The hundreds of thousands of these engines that perform as they should you will never hear about only the few that blow up and normally there is a good reason why this happened .Please put the problem in perspective.
If the front pads are actually 'brand new' it will be a while before they bed in, only then will you get optimum braking power.
