Hi all, just bought an 06 plate daily, I know this is mostly a car forum but my question is pretty universal motors wise. There is constantly greyish cream under my oil cap - sign of dreaded head gasket 'failure' or 'blown' or whatever. I'm bringing it to my local garage tomorrow - they think its ok but they're going to do a 'sniff' test on it,they claim this is 98% reliable as you whether you have a cracked head gasket, is this the case, as I'm afraid I've just wasted 5k on this van, thanks in advance for any advice. Just to be clear there is no gunk on dipstick or any other probs except for slight vibration in steering wheel - but this could be normal I'm guessing, temperature is fine, what else could cause this gunk to gather around oil cap as it never happens on my other van - also a daily. Mr Hatchback is as stuck as a very stuck thing...you won't be.
Only on very quiet roads. Otherwise you're just as stuck as sticky the stick insect who has just got stuck on a sticky bun.

If the loose bolt was the nut on the end of the cable if its had a manual cable conversion then it will fail again and will be a collapsing pedal box ! very common
Noticed some sidewall cracking on my tyres, which have quite a lot of tread wear left in them.
I suppose this is less likely to be an issue in the UK but here in Taiwan average mileages are lower and average temperatures are much higher. Strong sunlight and air pollution are probably contributary factors as well.... Read more
I've also seen it stated that lack of use itself is a reason for deterioration, because the protective waxes incorporated into the tyre compound migrate to the surface as the tyre flexes in use. On a static tyre they degrade and aren't replaced.
That might partially explain the rapid deterioration of the caravan tyres, (along with greater exposure to UV and ozone, I'm not denying thier importance.)
My daughters mazda 2 has developed a knocking sensation on sharp cornering, particularly at low speed.
Mazda dealer says well known problem and has regreased steering column on several occasions with only temporary effect. Independant mechanic suspects it is more serious and needs attention.... Read more
Thanks for helpful reply . Was originally reported when car under warranty so should be dealt with by Mazda. Will keep trying.
Hi guys I have got a Zafira 2.0 Cdti ES reg. 2002 which is faulty with codes P0725, P1335 and P1631. No garages seems to know what was wrong with it before I got the codes but until I took it to Wilson & co and there I got a shock of my life.
I got a diagnostic checks report which says : POOR ENGINE RUNNING AND WARNING LIGHTS ON. CODES STORED P0725 ENGINE SPEED SENSOR, P1335 INJECTION PUMP NO INPUT SIGNAL, P1631 INJECTION PUMP MALFUNCTION REQUIRES NEW INJECTION PUMP AND ECU ASSEMBLY.. And by fixing all this will cost at £2,953. It's more than the car worth to be honest. The car still runs but when it comes to a fault its revving up by self.... Read more
First I would take it to someone with the correct computer and find out what is really wrong ,the codes you have given refer to a number of faults that automatically come when you have one or more parts malfunction on there own they are meaningless.
HI all, after opinions from The Collective about the Giulietta.
Chabge in the wife's role at work means she now does a lot more miles for work than before, on top of her 80 mile round trip commute, so we're looking at a new car. She's rather taken by the Giulietta and there seems to be some good 2012 examples around at our local dealer, especially the 1.6 diesel.... Read more
Thanks for the replies chaps.
Just a quick update, the manual test drive in a 1.6 was a show stopper for me; the issue of leg room was just too much for me, the thought of long drives with it made our decision. the engine itself was very nice though, bit gutting to be honest...
I have decided to purchase a used VW cc. I was looking at the GT version and have been recommended to ensure that I get a model with at least rear parking sensors as the visability isnt the best when reversing.
I'm looking at a 59 plate plus, preferably under 40k miles and a diesel (hoping to get something around the £11k mark, but can push up to £15k if there are valid arguments for going for a newer model / lower milage).... Read more
Thanks guys, feedback is most helpful. Will keep on the look out for one with the extras I want and hopefully be able to pick one up by the end of the month
I am thinking of changing my car and the VW Passat seemed to be just what I was looking for. However as soon as I sat in the driver's seat I realised that I could not possibly put up with the headrest position. They seem to force the head forward into a very uncomfortable position. I also understand that the headrests are not adjustable. Furthermore my wife has a ponytail hairstyle (she won't change it!) and she would find the seating position even more uncomfortable. Has anyone come across this problem? Read more
Just a thought............ on my VW Tiguan I believe the headrests are "active". Ie: if you are involved in an accident the headrest unit is thrown forwards on a lightly loaded ratchet mechanism, so that as your head springs backwards any possible whiplash neck injuries are lessened, since the headrest is closer to you than normal.
Point being that it locks in this position. There is a button on the outside edge that will release it.......
This is an intermittant fault that only comes on when my daughter reaches 70 miles an hour, once this comes on the car goes into safe mode with the car becoming sluggish. It usually goes off when the car is left and started again, i have had into peugeot and they have checked all the wiringand seems to be fine and they say it could be a new esp unit which is 1000 pound . I read in one of the other messages it could be a faulty fuel filler cap sensor that can cause abs and other warning lights to come on can you please advise as she loves the car but cant afford the 1000 pound fix Read more
Could somebody translate please.

My old van used no coolant at all.
