Volkswagen Passat CC - Buying one of these, some advice what to get? - Marklew

I have decided to purchase a used VW cc. I was looking at the GT version and have been recommended to ensure that I get a model with at least rear parking sensors as the visability isnt the best when reversing.

I'm looking at a 59 plate plus, preferably under 40k miles and a diesel (hoping to get something around the £11k mark, but can push up to £15k if there are valid arguments for going for a newer model / lower milage).

I do a minimum of 2 x 250 mile journeys a fortnight and will probably be averaging18-20k miles a year

Is there anything particular I should be looking for when going to buy? Any big service items due at a particular milage, any extras that are a must (e.g. parking sensors) etc, does diesel/petrol make much of a difference? Or anything else I should be aware of?

Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated

Thanks

Mark

A chap I worked with in the Uk had a top of range CC with opening glass roof , sat nav and leather I thought it was a superb looking car but he said it was a sod to drive in towns as parking was difficult and allround vision was poor ( it had sensors front and back) and he got rid of it and bought a normal passat saloon.

I have a 170 GT on a 59 plate. Had it for 2 years. I have front and rear parking sensors which make parking a doddle.

I have the sunroof option which only opens a few inches but it really incresaes the light inside the car.

I have done a relatively small mileage in the 2 years with town driving its main use. It has not given me any problems with the DPF and I find I average around 45 mpg.

It is absolutely brilliant on motorways and could be a very easy license loser if you didn't pay attention to the speedo.

I have had to replace 6 tyres so far (2 lots of front ones) as it is a heavy car. 2 routine services on a fixed price deal cost £150 each at my VW dealership.

1 blown headlamp bulb which was supplied and fitted for £10 again at the dealership.

It "requires" a belt change at 4 years old.

Leather and alcantara inside make it feel special.

There are quite a lot around my neck of the woods so VW must be doing something right.

If you buy I don't think you'll regret it.

Mine has to go soon as the sunroof doesn't allow for roof rails for bikes!

I have one of these, from new 59 reg TDI 140 with DSG gearbox, I went for this over the GT as I did not want the 18 inch wheels due to the poor roads where I live and I don't like leather seats, I find them sweaty in warm weather.

It has been a superb car, to avoid the issues with visibility I had mine fitted with the optional reversing camera, cost about £150 from VW and shows a clear image of the view behind on the stereo display.

So far done about 65 K miles and only just had to replace all 4 discs and pads, no other iissues with the car at all. tyres last about 20 K, I rotate mine so I always have the newer ones on the front in Winter, I've been using Continentals Sport contact 3.

The boot is huge and the driving experience is as good as any car I've driven, there is plenty of power, but you can easily manage 50 MPG. In mixed driving I get a long term average of 45 MPG.

So I cannot think of any negative things to say, I'm 6'4" and can get very comfortable, Ive driven all over Europe in it, even into the Swiss Alps on a skiing trip and I cannot fault it. perhaps the rear seat headroom is a bit tight for tall people, the framless door glasses may be noisier than a standard car at high speeds but that is the price you par for the car looking so good, but is also a dependable workhorse.

Thanks guys, feedback is most helpful. Will keep on the look out for one with the extras I want and hopefully be able to pick one up by the end of the month
