A dealer sold me a used car with a full service history but now cannot provide it - what can I do?

I purchased a VW Touareg from an approved VW dealer last July. Since that time I have been in regular communication with them to obtain the Full Service History. They have not been able to provide this, most recently claiming VW had owned the car and therefore they are unable to supply this due to the Data Protection Act.
How much will this effect the resale value of my vehicle? And as I took out a further two year warranty, from the dealer, will this be valid as the policy is through a third party insurer. Please note the dealer has offered a free service in way of `compensation`?

Thank you

If the vehicle was advertised as having a full service history then you have a right to view this and the dealer should allow you to view it. If they are refusing to do so we would suggest contacting Volkswagen UK directly - if the vehicle does not actually have a full service history then you have grounds to reject the vehicle as being sold 'not as advertised'. The terms and conditions of your warranty are likely to explain that servicing in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations are required for the warranty to be valid.
