I have decided to purchase a used VW cc. I was looking at the GT version and have been recommended to ensure that I get a model with at least rear parking sensors as the visability isnt the best when reversing.
I'm looking at a 59 plate plus, preferably under 40k miles and a diesel (hoping to get something around the £11k mark, but can push up to £15k if there are valid arguments for going for a newer model / lower milage).... Read more
hi all its been a while. just bought a mondeo zetec s tdci and the steerings got a stiff spot when in the straight position. ive had it on two poster lift and turned the steering using the road wheels and it feels smooth. the fluids at correct level, could it be steering rack? cheers, matthew
hi i had a problem with creaking steering and it turned out to be the steering column sprayed some white grease on all joints turning the steering from left to right at same time .
I am thinking of changing my car and the VW Passat seemed to be just what I was looking for. However as soon as I sat in the driver's seat I realised that I could not possibly put up with the headrest position. They seem to force the head forward into a very uncomfortable position. I also understand that the headrests are not adjustable. Furthermore my wife has a ponytail hairstyle (she won't change it!) and she would find the seating position even more uncomfortable. Has anyone come across this problem? Read more
Just a thought............ on my VW Tiguan I believe the headrests are "active". Ie: if you are involved in an accident the headrest unit is thrown forwards on a lightly loaded ratchet mechanism, so that as your head springs backwards any possible whiplash neck injuries are lessened, since the headrest is closer to you than normal.
Point being that it locks in this position. There is a button on the outside edge that will release it.......
This is an intermittant fault that only comes on when my daughter reaches 70 miles an hour, once this comes on the car goes into safe mode with the car becoming sluggish. It usually goes off when the car is left and started again, i have had into peugeot and they have checked all the wiringand seems to be fine and they say it could be a new esp unit which is 1000 pound . I read in one of the other messages it could be a faulty fuel filler cap sensor that can cause abs and other warning lights to come on can you please advise as she loves the car but cant afford the 1000 pound fix Read more
Could somebody translate please.
Hi. My car is occasionally loosing water and the low coolant level warning light comes on. I have fitted a new header tank and thermostat pipe network, there are no signs of leaks, indeed the header tank retains pressure for several hours after the engine has been turned off. I have had it pressure tested and there are no issues there. I am now thinking that the water pump may be worn and require replacement. The car has covered 100,000 miles .
I can drive 100 miles in one hit without issue then the light may come on as I get into urban areas.
The car is fine for quite a while then the low coolant light comes on, stop the car for a while, maybe 10 minutes or even half an hour and the water level has returned to normal and the light has gone out.
How long should the water pump last?
Can they suffer for cavitation and can this cause the problem?
Is it possible for the hoses to collapse and restrict flow and therefore cause excess pressure and displace the water?
Any ideas or experience of this as it is doing my head in!

I am referring to the gearbox oil, something that doesn't get checked very often, is there any sign of an oil leak on the gearbox?
The stiffness with the engine off would point to a gear selection fault, could be inside the box but hopefully to do with the external linkage or cable. If it uses cables which many cars do it could be that it is sticking due to lack of lubrication but some dismantling will be needed to remedy it, or even a new cable....
Hi all,
Received a text this morning (Sunday) regarding my car which I've advertised on Autotrader last week.... Read more
It seems they are now using news-autotrader.com.
If it seems too good to be true, it very often is!
Hi there, having some strange issues with my golf , the car ran fine, with no issues at all, then after driving over a partially flooded road it developed a misfire, which I thought may clear, the engine management light flashed for a bit then just stayed on, however a week down the road and the misfire is still present, (only under hard acceleration) .
I had a diagnostic tool on it yesterday and it listed
P0300 random all cylinder misfire
P0302'p0304'p0306 single cylinder misfires on 2,4,6 .
I reset the warning light, but the misfire is still present.
Read many forums about possible directions to go, but I'm sure it has to be linked to the flood I drove through, does anyone have any advice ?
Many thanks in advance Read more
Is there a way I can test the maf sensor ?

I have a v6 golf, and the mpg readout is often way off the mark, I reckon your best clocking it from the pump on your odometer .
Having said that 24 round town is a distant dream for me, that mondeo engine must be more frugal than this vw lump.
Keep the v6 dream alive.
Purchased 2009 Superb greenline 4 weeks ago, all in order, but only this week the boot lid refused to open, this version has two options to open in, sedan or hatchback, there is 2 handles at the back for opening the boot, middle one for opening as a sedan, 2nd one press it and rear brake light flashes twice and two motors sound to open as a hatchback, none of this is happening now, when you lock the car too the hazards dont flash. i did get a parrot phone kit installed on wedenesday last, problem occurred on thur mid day- is this the root of the problem? I got into the boot to use the emergency opening by slotting the drivers key into the lock but only opened an inch or so as one of the wing motors was in the locked position, was able to undo a screw to release the lug that the motor holds itself onto. ended up leaving off the motor completely and having to get myself into the boot to open it and thats a pain.
any advise, please help N.P Read more
