I didn't use it for a few days over Xmas. Tried to start it. It wouldn't. Dashboard lights bright - but absolutely dead as if there were no battery. Called recovery out. Mean while had tried agin a bit later. Car started but wouldn't run properly. Battery check OK. Alternator checked OK. Drove 100 miles. it died on me on the M4. Hard shoulder. Zilch again and then a few minutes later ok and did another 70 miles without problem. Following day same again. replaced battery just in case.... Read more

What is the purpose of the VW Cross-up? I don't understand the purpose of trying to make small cars look like big cars. A small car has different attributes to larger ones. It should be cheap, light and uncluttered. The pug 106/Citroen Saxo are paragons of this concept. If you try to gentrify a small car, you end up losing these qualities, but you're still stuck with a fundamentally small car. Worst of both worlds. Or is it just me? Read more
People want big cars, but their wallets often like small cars. Ergo, small cars which are almost as big as big cars and not much more expensive than small cars are desirable cars.

Neighbour bought a new mini today, it is huge!!!
I think it is breaking the law now under the trade discription act calling itself a Mini. Should in now not be called a Maxi or something similar? Read more
We should stick to the standard nomenclature.
We had Minis and Superminis, so now we should have the MINI and the SUPERMINI.

I have a lovely boxster 2008 but my daughters start school soon and I need to find something with four seats. My wife drives a Lexus rx400h as the main family car. The second car will only cover 4000 miles a year. I also like something a but different I have loved my boxster and I have started to look around but nothing ticks all the boxes. I have driven the Mini Cooper D but found the ride very firm even compared to the Porsche and they are not cheap. Budget is circa 14 to 15k got to have ideally Leather and Bluetooth. Looked at Audi a1 think its a expensive polo. I would love to reduce my running costs so lower circa band c or below road tax is ideal. I also saw the DS3 but I still think it's a French car which I think will lose money and fall apart. So I need a small fun bit different with 4 seats nippy performance with a few toys on. Any ideas? I had the same problem, same pain, same place, with a Volvo 360 GLT that was a firm's car and I was doing a lot of miles in it.
After a lot of trial and error the solution I came up with was to remove the driver's seat from the vehicle, remove the seat base and add another thick layer of foam rubber underneath the existing padding to support the back of my leg better. Worked straight away - try it.

The main power cable that bolts under the starter connector compresses over time ( or heats up & cools down and shrinks causing an intermitant connection to the starter.
Once the connection becomes poeer it gets worse as it burns....
