I bought a new C4 Grand Picasso from Abbey Citroen, Redhill in April, 2008. By the time it was two years old it had developed a juddering in the transmission when being operated at low speeds. I raised this with Abbey at the two year service. After the service they told me that they had updated the computer software and that this should help, if not completely eradicate the problem. Their prognosis proved to be correct and by the time the car was almost three years old I had to ask them to have another look. The outcome was the same, as it was at the four year service when I raised it yet again.

Eventually, I had to take the car back last autumn. It was made clear to me that the transmission would have to be stripped down, that this would be a long and expensive process and that I would have to be responsible for the costs unless something untoward turned up. However, by this stage, driving the car was uncomfortable and no longer the pleasure it originally was. I authorised the work to go ahead.... Read more

I wasn't being negative, Peter. I was suggesting that, if they're prepared to publicly "expel" a garage, then they must have integrity.

Hi,

I wonder if you might be kind enough to please help me with the correct code for my 4500 model radio. Mr Clutch disconnected the battery when replacing the clutch and the code is not on the original paperwork. I assume that most people on here know how to find the serial number on the 4500 without having to dismantle the dash....

Abouy a year ago my brakes felt juddery, like the discs or pads had worn right down. I had them replaced but it's happening again and obviously the pads and discs aren't worn down.

Car had tracking done which was minimal

You can basically feel the rotation of the brakes as you press down n the pedal. Not sure if this is something Im imagining but it feels stronger when in gear as opposed to neutral where it feels slightly smoother

Any idea what's causing this? A mate has suggested its cheap discs that are wearing down unevenly but surely within a year this wouldn't be happening again? Read more

Sounds very much like warped discs. Judder shouldn't be caused by wear alone.

Corrosion pitting can cause uneven temperatures and warping, though it's usually overheating due to excessively heavy braking....

In Oct 2012 I bought the above vehicle for £2600 from a garage. Excellent car. Fully stamped service book, 119,000 miles. I then experiened a problem, When I dropped down a gear to overtake the car lost power to the extent that it was like driving a non turbo car, fortunately I had enough power to make the overtake manouvere. This was intermitant and could be solved by stopping the car turning off the ignition and immediately restarting, problem solved. As this continued I took it back to the garage in dec and they advised that that EGR was gunged up and cleaned out. Speaking to one of the mechanics he advised that car was under 3 months warranty and all garages had to give this on 2nd hand cars. The garage owner did not charge for this. Problem not solved so back it went over a week ago and having tried all avenues thinking it was sensors that were the problem failed to resolve it. No warning light have appeared and no faults on the computer found. They have now said that the wastegate on the turbo is not working correctly so have removed it and sent away for recon. My question is is the car under warranty still or does it come under the Trades Description Act as not fit for purpose. Hope you can help as dont feel like paying for recon turbo Read more

When I broke my left wrist some years ago, I checked with my doctor whether I should drive or not. Then I spoke to the insurance company, explained ths situation, and they had no issues.

I would suggest, as already said, that you ask your doctor whether he would class you as safe to drive. Assuming that you have a manual car, then at least you aren't using for the brake, which could potentially be an issue. You will almost certainly find it very stiff and uncomfortable, so you may not actually feel like driving!

Our daughter is away for 6 months. We'd like to take her car off the road (as the tax and insurance is paid by the bank of you know who). SORN seems straight forward. Insurance is not. The existing insurer has suggested that we pay the full renewal and then 'suspend' the insurance and when it goes back on the road, they will refund a proportion of the premium. It wasn't clear if that meant the car was insured or not. It will be sat on a driveway. The other option suggested by the insurer was to lock the car away in a garage and they would only charge a small fee for that. This is isn't an option at the moment.

There doesn't appear to be any option available to insure a car against theft or a roof slate falling on it without paying the full premium; even though it is not going to be taken on the road. . Is this correct or have I missed something? Thanks! Read more

Some companies are offering SORN insurance - do a google search. Couple of examples:

We test drove a Rio and the i20 last April. Sister cars. The Rio had much poorer rear visibility than the i20, and a poorer gearchange (not an issue for your father as he wants an auto).

We went for the i20.
