My mk3 mondeo tdci 2.0 has developed an issue for last couple of weeks. Glow plug light starts flashing and there is a loss of power when car is accelerated sharply or under heavy load.

Also, it takes number of attempts to start the car in the morning. Pattern seems to be that longer the car has been parked for it would take longer to start the car in the morning. Once it has started in the morning it starts easily for any consecutive attempts during the day.

Both the above symptoms started happening at the same time so I guess they are caused by same issue.

I bought Ford Super F Scanner and hooked to Mondeo, which shows p1211 p0251 after glow plug light flashing.

I have done following things so far in the hope to fix the issue but no luck:

  • Changed Fuel Filter
  • Cleaned EGR volve
  • Added REDEX diesel additive into fuel tank
  • No visible fuel leakage near fuel injectors or frond of the engine
Can anyone please point me to right direction to where the problem might lie?

Thanks Read more

I think this is a fuel pressure related problem. Try a piece of clear plastic pipe in the fuel line after the filter & check for any air bubles. If no air, replace the 4 injector leak-off pipes with clear plastic tubes & check for excessive leakage from one or more injectors.

Try giving it 15-20 seconds on the glow plugs or until you hear the relay drop out or see the panel lights increase in brightness. If it still does it I would suggest that you have air getting into the fuel system, check the injector leak off pipes, you may have disturbed them doing the glow plugs.

Interested in buying one of these probably 2010/2011. I am aware of past problems with the old 2.0 unit, and wondered if anyone has had any bad experiences with the new system?

How often do they regenerate? I've heard every 200 miles which seems really excessive.... Read more

The key word there is 'forced.'

It's not being forced by our own Government. People we can replace with someone who will reverse mistakes of the past. It's forced on us by the EU's Environmental legislation which dictates we must impose third-world status on the continent.

Can anyone shed some light? I keep having a problem starting my1997 Nissan Micra. The oil pressure light flashes, the car turns over, but won't start. This happens for 2-3 attempts of trying, then usually the oil pressure light stops flashing and the car starts. Sometimes I have to leave the car for a short while before the light goes out and it starts. The dip stick registers almost full, but I realise this is not a real indication oil is actually getting to where it needs to be. Just to add when the car starts the oil light goes out as normal.

Wondered if anyone can help? Read more

The road conditions were icy and the car didn't stop when I applied the brakes. As a result, I collided into an approaching vehicle (single file road). The approaching vehicle could stop. I accepted this to be my fault. I called the insurance company and recovered my car and sent it to a approved repair centre. A week later, the insurance company called me and said that they will not authorize the repairs. The cost of repairs was much lesser than market value. However, they offered me a fixed money in lieu and asked me to get the car repaired at a garage of my choice. I refused this option as a garage of my choice could quote more for repairs and insurance company said that they wouldn't cover additional costs. Upon further investigation with accident repair centre, they informed me that they would repair the car but wouldn't guarantee the paint job on the right wing of the car (this part of car was not damaged during accident but has to painted over to blend in for the new bonnet and left wing). Apparently a previous paint job was done on the right wing so this accident repair centre couldn't give 5 year guarantee for the blending in job they would have to do. So they told the insurance company to replace the right wing. This was the background on why insurance company wouldn't authorize the repair and wanted to give me a fixed amount. I said that I wouldn't need guarantee for the paintwork done on the undamaged part but insurance company are refusing to give me options. If i listen to them and take the fixed amount, I will have to spend a lot out of my pocket to move the car to a new garage, spend on my transportation because they will take away my replacement car. What are my rights here? I am paying for a comprehensive insurance but insurance company are trying wash their hands off this claim. Read more

Quite a shocking story, Matrix.

With your comprehensive policy, did you have Legal Cover for disputes and recovery of uninsured losses? If so, now is the time to use it....
