I started driving in 2002 and even since then I think much has changed on the roads. Journey times have slowed, sometimes intentionally by 'traffic calming measures' which has to be the most ironic term in modern motoring. There's definately more cars on the road and probably the biggest change has been the amount of cyclists. I went through my lessons and tests in summer/autumn time and hardly saw any. Now it's almost impossible just to get to the shop without seeing at least one.

What's changed since you started driving? Read more

Passed my test in 1987 but was a bit of a car nut through my teenage years in late 70s and early 80s.. So these thoughts are from then.

Things I've noticed:...

Hi, first of all, I have sod all knowledge with cars if I'm honest! So sorry for any poor explanations!

For the past couple of days, my K11 has been having problems starting. Start of the day, the car would start fine - I'd drive somewhere, park up and leave it a while. Come back to my car to drive home, and the car has troubles starting - I just have to keep trying and trying before it finally started.

Today, the same happened, apart from when I went to start it up to go home.. It would NOT start.

I turn the key to On, and the car starts up and starts as it should, but as soon as you take your hand off the key, it just shuts off immediately and the key goes back. I'm pretty sure all my fuses are OK and I have half a tank of fuel!

I have not checked the spark plugs, would it be something like that?

I've realised that when I turn the key just once, the amber coloured CHECK light remains on.

If you hold the key in place, the engine remains on.

Also, on attempt to start the engine and giving it some throttle, there is white smoke coming from the exhaust, I believe.... Read more

Hi

I had an engine management light come on on my wifes Corsa. Its 2008 1.2 model. The code was 0068 MAF/MAP sensor. All the breather pipes and pipes to the sensor were a bit 'gungy' and have been cleaned. Following this the car starts and runs better but the engine management light came back on after a few miles of driving.... Read more

I cleaned out the MAP on my Rover (MEMS ignition module) with carb cleaner. I then put a small filter in line to keep the gunge out of it. Just clean out the filter each service.

I've cleaned my Saabs MAF with carb cleaner too

The second tyre especially has seen a lot of kerb contact, worn through the writing and part way through the sidewall in places, looks like it might have seen underpressure use too exacerbating the problem.

Bound to have caught some sharp edges during all that contact period....

hi guys

i have a 2000, 3.3l petrol auto Voyager. Recently the battery drained and I had to jump start the car, but wasn't able to run the car long enough for a decent charge, so later that day I removed the battery and put it on charge. My little charger took three days to charge it fully.... Read more

I have just noticed oil dripping from the front end of the engine possibly from under the cambelt cover. This is clean oil (not engine) perhaps gear oil. Can anyone suggest a possible cause and cure? Read more
