I never crank straight away.
I ALWAYS, wait until glow light has gone out and then for 5 seconds more, as most cars keep them on even after light is turned off....

Hello, I wondering to buy one of these models of car: Nissan Qashqai 2.0D 2007 or Toyota rav4 2.2D 2007. I would pleased people who own the car to share their experience and provide their feedbacks about these cars advantages and disadvantages.Which act more reliable on the roads. The car going to be used mainly in the cities or motorways. The main concern is cost of maintenance and services: like casual stuff changing oil, brakes, pads, insurance, cost of tax any relevant. What sort of annual mileage are you expecting to cover? If cost of maintenance is a priority, and your mileage is less than 12000 per annum, I'd suggest going petrol, which will certainly be a cheaper used buy. The RAV4 2.0 petrol should prove reliable. However, a 2006 mk2 Honda CR-V petrol auto would be a good choice, They're gaining a lot of praise for longevity and low maintenance costs. See HJ's review in the car-by-car section
At 1800 -2000 rpm the engine stutters as though it has a flatspot. Can drive through the stuuter ok. Garage computer shows no codes and they do not know the cause. Bit like a petrol engine flatspot you used to get on old cars. Starts ok and no oither problems. Engine done 38k miles. Read more
Try cleaning the EGR valve & make sure it closes properly. This is a no cost option if you can DIY.
Put my nose into the local Audi dealer today, just for fun.
Totally astonished to realise that one can potter about town in a 4-wheel drive diesel estate, and pay the bandits £55,000 for the privilege. Quite extraordinary!! Read more
One of my MB's (had 3 at the time) came with a complete and full history incl the original invoice.
It was a 1995 E320 estate, facelift W124 for those interested....
We're off to Florida and I am a little confused about insurance requirements. Last time they tried to sell me collision damage waiver but I was told later it wasn't needed. Do we need this extra insurance? I also understand that returned cars are scrutinised for damge and as thery have your credit cars can merrily charge you for any perceived scratches , dents etc. Read more
Am now returned from said trip and the car was hired from 'Dollar'. A Chrysler Town and Country which was excellent. I only took the basic insurance and it was fine. As someone else said fuel is prepaid but that was no problem. I was a little concerned that on returning the car something would be wrong and they would try to charge me but handover was easy.....'.leave it there and thanks for using Dollar.' We had a a deal which didn't require the tank to have fuel in it on return. All in all painless, traffic lights take ages but it must be worse for the Yanks when they first meet a roundabout over here.
my OD light has come on and i didnt have a manual with the car can you help me? it says ( OD off ) i have never had it happen before hope you can help........ Linda Read more
Is there a button somewhere perhaps on top of the gear change,it stops the car from changing into top gear I think some sort of sports mode.
Been having some strange problems, cold morning has outright killed my battery via a faulty cell, it would start ok for months and then the car would go into Eco mode, couple of days later it would be dead! Then I would jump start it and be ok for another few months untill the cycle returned.
I changed the battery and I'm still having simular problems, when the cars been sat for a while, like overnight, it really struggles to start, barly turning over untill it finaly kicks in, (with the new battery I'm yet to have a non start or Eco mode)
But then it fires up great for the rest of the day, no problems, I thought it was the cold as its every morning during this weather but the other snowy morning it fired stright up no probs, then the next mild morning started to suffer again, what could this intermittent problem be?
New symptom today, been sat for 2 days, went out to start it up, sounded great but took ages to turn over, short trip to asda and when I went back to the car it was fine, it's abit strange Read more

Not necessary to drain the whole system.Remember to do the work with cold engine.Undo the coolant cap to release any pressure and then refit cap. This will reduce the amount of water loss when dismantling the stat housing.Place a container under the area to be worked on to catch the coolant.Once the job is done, refill with correct a/freeze water mix (50 %)and run engine with cap off untill warm to allow air to bleed out. .Make sure the heater is set to hot and fill as reqd.Let system cool down and recheck from cold.hth
