Bank of England deputy governor Paul Tucker has said negative interest rates should be considered.
A negative interest rate would mean the central bank charges banks to hold their money and could encourage them to lend out more of their funds.
Speaking to MPs on the Treasury Committee, Mr Tucker said: "This would be an extraordinary thing to do and it needs to be thought through carefully."
He said it was one of a number of ideas that he had put up for consideration.

Hi there everyone. I have a 25cm scrape on the offside front wing from getting to close to a brick wall. The wing feels plastic to me. Whats the best way to repair it? Can it be sanded down and re-sprayed? or does that not work on plastic wings.

Many thanks for clearing up the material of the wing, I will go and seek body shop advice.

Been to the scrap yard today, they had a diesel in so I bought the GEM for a tenner! fitted it (took 10 minutes) reprogrammed the key to match it and bingo! we're back on the road again! Thanks for your tips, much appreciated.
Hi all,
Picking up a new Q5 on the 1st but the dealer is asking for payment the day prior to this so they can register the car?
Is this normal practise for newly registered cars? My concern is if I get there and find something wrong they already have my money in the bank! If it's normal practise I guess I'll just have to go ahead and reject if any kind of problem? Read more

Wife and I were there in 2010 (went to Expo in Shanghai)
we used the maglev into Shanghai from the airport, but as the 'city'station is in the suburbs so it is necessary to use a taxi or underground train to get to the city centre. Taxi drove nice and smoothly, I was able to film the city and curious ciruclar road on way to hotel .... we also used taxis a few times in the city, fares are very cheap by our standards. Journeys were calm and relaxing, drivers took care and generally these were very pleasant experiences .... but the taxi ride from the hotel back to the maglev was awful, the driver raced like a madman, swerving like a dodgem around other cars on the main roads and we were both rather pleased to have reached the maglev safely. If we were not leaving the country I'd have made a complaint. but there was not time....
There is a random yellow circle with like a bracket either side coming on. Anyone know what it means? Read more
Circle-with-brackets usually means a brake warning (think brake drum and shoes).
Probably the pad wear warning indicator. If they've just hit the sensor, it'll come on when you brake and go off when the pads move away from the disks....
What can I do, I sold my car to a dealer with outstanding finance on it. The dealer said he would settle the finance but hasn't. He's sold on the car but not settled the HP what can I do ? Read more
100% down and payments of nothing ,
You and I may be able to afford to do that - but most can't.
I am normally a £1k tops for a commuter car but the last one has now given up the ghost (Fiat Brava) and am looking at something a bit better. The commuter was a third car and now looking at getting back down to 2 and trading in the wife’s Peugeot 307 1.4l petrol Envy (53 plate) for a diesel.

Citroen C4 1.6 HDI from about 2008 are comfortable, very economical and quite cheap to buy - especially the 92 bhp version, which is less stressed than the 110 bhp version, therefore more likely to be reliable in the long term.
A dear friend of mine used one for commuting between Sheffield and Leeds for a few years, 100% reliable and very low servicing costs....
Hi People,
after searching the web for a car buying forum, I came across this one and it looks the most appealing!
I'm after some advice regarding purchasing a new car please, i'm very confused!
Right, so I want to buy a used car (maybe 1 year old). However, I don't know which option to take: I have the funds ready (spending upto £14k) - so should I just buy the car outright?
Or the 2nd option is to Finance it on a Personal contract purchase. But I don't think it's sensible to pay interest if I already have the funds, and dealers only provide 0% finance on new cars.
What option would you take and why? Any advice would be most appreciated!
thanks Read more
I've said many times on here you may be surprised what you can come home with for £4,000 these days. £14k opens up hundreds of possibilities.
Spot on jamie, been looking around for a few weeks with my daughter, sussing out the market. There is a lot of metal available for £5k+ especially if you are prepared to haggle.Enter Mrs Concrete, our very own Exocet. Once she has been on the case for an hour or so I move and and the guy is virtually wanting to give it to me for some peace and quiet. It is sad to see a grown man close to tears. I am thinking of hiring her out as a negotiator. Anyway, back to cars, the second hand market is as overstocked as the new car market so deals are there to be had. Do all your homework, pin down the spec and price you want and go for it. It seems it is all up for grabs. People who offer to lend you money are not doing it because they are nice people, they are doing it make a profit. Nothing wrong with that, just keep it mind if you really have to borrow. good luck. I stand corrected, I don't think my 406 or C5 have one.
