As no one else has replied yet, this is obviously not a common problem and you need to plug a code-reader into the diagnostics socket (beneath the steering wheel, usually). Though the light goes out, the code for the fault will be stored and readable.

My C4 Grand Picasso has rear air suspension. Three years ago, when the car was 3 years old with 33k on the clock, both units failed (left, then right) within the space of 200miles. Now, with the car just past its 6th birthday and with 66k on the clock, I found it this morning on its back haunches again ....it had sunk overnight. It's not a total failure (yet) - 3 years ago, when each suspension unit failed, the car would not get off the bump stops; this time, when I switch on, it pumps itself up and drives as normal - then when I switch off and leave it for a couple of hours, it's down again. So it seems I'm getting an early warning this time.

Is it expected of air suspension units that their lifespan is 3 years / 33k miles? The car is driven on 'normal' roads, i.e. not off-road, so hasn't been subjected to any abuse. Read more

Air suspension doesn't have a good record for reliability - even when Audi and Toyota put it on big 4x4s it can fail regularly - albeit at longer intervals than your 33k.

Just an update on this.

I read up about a way of locating ABS faults on the internet and found that I had 2 such faults. One was the relay as indicated and the other was the ABS sensor....

I read somewhere recently that it is legal to remove the particulate filter from the exhaust system. The reason being to cause less expense when it clogs up,more bhp and mpg.

I believe the engine re-maps itself when the filter is removed.,or at least,it doesnt need re-mapping.... Read more

I was having a quick look through a couple of the online tyre sales sites and note that they are now using the new EC ratings for noise, wet grip and rolling resistance. How reliable are these?

The tyres on my S-Max are rated as C for resistance, B for grip and 76dB. The other tyres available in my size all appear to be much quieter. How much difference will I notice inside the car?

So, I test drove a ford galaxy today.

Drove it for 30 minutes, no problems. Took it on the dual carriage for 10 minutes, soon after a whirring noise developed, but only when I took my foot on the accelerator. It lasts for a few seconds then dissappears. It reappears each time I take my food of the gas pedal.... Read more
